So I have had a B4 since 2001 and it currently has 270k on it. While it runs OK and does its job to get me to and from work it is looking really rough and with an inspection due in February I am not confident it will pass. So I have started looking now at a replacement and originally I was just going to get a new Subaru Legacy. I used to have a modified Subaru Legacy GT and loved that wagon but the new ones are not exciting at all. No turbo to tinker with and no manual...worse yet they only have CVT's! So the other day I noticed there were several B8.5's CPO with fairly low mileage that were about the same price as the new Legacy or maybe a little cheaper. Either way I would rather stay with Audi but have my concerns. Reading up here these TFSI's seem to have less carbon fouling than the FSI's but are there any telltale signs of this problem without scoping the intake valves? Just trying to have a list of things to look at. Next up...oil consumption. At what point does the light come on in these vehicles. I know many don't come on until you have likely done damage. So if I find out the B8 I am looking at was reworked for this should I walk? TD1 flagging: can I request the dealer do a test prior to purchase so I know I have a clean car? I would hate to think I will have a warranty to 100k and find out I don't. What has been the overall impression of the CPO warranty coverage? I saw there is a deductible but the dealer told me it is basically a bumper to bumper warranty which sound encouraging. I am getting tired of fixing stuff on my B5. It seems like some people have still gotten flagged TD1 even after going back to stock. can you buy another ECU and have that one modified then just swap them back and forth if you go in for service? Is there anything else I should be looking at when I go for test drives?
