About a month ago I started hearing a weird ticking noise from outside the car while driving on the highway. The noise came, and is still coming, from the front passenger wheel well; it only gets worse the faster I drive.
I did a lot of research and ruled out the following concern items:
1. Anything to do with the tires/wheels/lug nuts (I rotated the wheels and triple check tightened all the lugs, but the noise and location remained the same.)
2. Rattling Brake Pads (I uninstalled and reinstalled all my pads and made sure the anti-rattle clips were secure and not bent)
3. Wheel Bearings (there is no groaning noise when I turn at speed nor slop when I try to shimmy the wheels back and forth while the car is in the air)
4. All CV joints (the ticking is present all the time, not only when turning. There are also no rips or tears in any of the boots)
A little background also FYI:
Back in February and only around 3k miles ago, I had JHM perform the following upgrades and maintenance. I won't comment about the service I got, nor the results, but here's the list:
JHM Stage 3R Clutch
JHM LWFW
USP Audi Clutch Line & Metal Slave Conversion
034 Transmission mount
Intake Manifold Spaces
Carbon Clean
New Transmission Fluid
Oil Change
Today, I lifted the car up one more time and took some videos. They show the car in the following setup:
-transmission in neutral
-only the tested wheel off the ground, the other three are touching
-wheel dismounted
-caliper off
This video shows what looks like a potentially misaligned front right axle and minor ticking around 16 seconds in
This shows pretty bad ticking from the front left side
I tried mounting a GoPro to the outside of my car to show how bad it is while driving on the highway, but the wind noise and my exhaust trumped the ticking.
Any ideas?
