My B6 chapter has come to a firey close.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My B6 Ultrasport avant burned down yesterday. One of the straps holding my braided fuel lines came loose, and the right front axle rubbed through the line. The moment it did, the car immediately caught fire. By the time I pulled over, the passenger side was in flames, my chemical fire extinguisher did absolutely nothing to quell a E85 alcohol fueled fire. I have no words, this car was ongoing project. I spared no expense and poured my soul into this car for the last four years. It made 621whp on a conservative 31psi and e70 fuel. Was waiting to upgrade my transmission and clutch before going for a full boost / timing tune.

I started a go fund me to try to recover from this to a degree.

I am so sorry to see this. I can't imagine the heartbreak and letdown that you must be feeling right now. Hopefully some of the performance parts are going to be salvageable.

I am glad to hear you are OK. I know this sucks, but cars are replaceable. This gives you an opportunity to start a new project, hopefully!

This is a personal disaster for you for sure. I really feel bad for you. I trust you can recover with something as good if not better going forward. I can't find the words to adequately convey my sincerest regrets this happened to you.

We're going to try to salvage the engine, and find another car to put it into. The internals seem to be ok, I won't know until we fully rip the engine out of the car and remove the burned components. BAT guys running E85, please check your fuel system regularly, something so dumb to grenade the entire car is the worst possible way to go.

Still glad you're okay. Still think the GoFundMe is fucked up.

Did you delete your post from the FB page? Or did a mod because of the GoFundMe?

Mod did. Insurance doesn't cover mods. You can pay a hefty premium to have a maximum 4000 dollar extra policy to the value of the car for aftermarket equipment. I couldn't afford to write off the value of the car once a year to do that. Car had a book value of under 4k with my mileage. I'll be happy if the gofundme covers the tow off the highway. I have been helping people in the Audi community without asking for anything in return, I don't think its outrageous to ask for help when Im down and tapped out.

Looks like the fire caught on quick. Glad to hear that you are okay, but sorry to see your project go. At over 600whp, that car was probably a blast to drive around.

It was quite fast, the one remaining item that was bottle necking the car was the transmission. 3.0 01E gearing was terrible in that thing.

Stay strong brother, you escaped physically unscathed. We all know the feeling of pouring our time, effort and money into these cars.

Really does make you think though. The whole point of insurance is for catastrophic events and to replace what you have with the equivalent (at least monetarily). Then you still need the effort of re-creating / finding what you had. But when you mod a car, it really does go into the grey zone. Damn. I'm going to make mine a garage queen and get a bone stock oem daily! Half the parts on my car don't even exist any more.

Let us know how things fair out and if you stay with the B6 platform!

Not to nudge you too quickly through your mourning process... but I'm sure that on some level you're thinking about what comes next. I mean, after all, it was just a hunk of metal. These machines become an extension of our bodies and we can be *at one* with them diving into a tight corner with complete confidence. But it's not like losing one of your limbs. I'd say you're lucky to be alive. I had a similar experience with a Mini Cooper when I was a young lad of 16. It involved driving on a frozen cove in New London, CT. No fire, but ice.

If you had to replace your gleam machine with something, what would it be? Another Audi? A newer platform?

If C7 S6s come down into the low 30s, I may want to look into one of those. Though it seems like its still a few years away. I still have my R53 cooper s daily. May just need to get by with that for now while I recoup financially.

I as well have an ongoing project and I know anything can happen when doing these builds. I just wanted to say sorry for your loss. When putting this much blood, sweat, and tears into your car and this happens it's like losing a child so to speak. Good luck!

Oh wow! That is a horrible end to such a great vehicle. Smash is one thing, but to see it all disappear completely with no much salvageable is really bad. Thankfully, you're OK and no else is hurt either. It must a be a horrible feeling knowing how much effort and $ you've put into this car.

Wow. This is really scary. I fee like even if you had comprehensive on it, this likely wouldn't be covered since the fueling system was modified. Either way, glad you made it out alive. I fear this happening on my 2 jetskis much more than my car since its stock, but I don't have any idea how I would respond to something like this.
