congrats! B6 A4s are great care and you will love the Quattro in Alaska.
If I were you, I would save as much as you can as soon as you can for as long as you can. If you plan to have this Audi for years to come, starting to mod makes sense, but why not save some money to pay for repairs and then down the road you can get a vehicle that you'll fall in love with :) just my opinion tho.

I had a b5 a4 (1997) back in high school and I loved it - but I also put about 4K in to the car on updated - in hindsight, I knew I was gonna rid that car - so I wish I would've been smarter about it.

If you lower the car and put some nice wheels on it, that's a good start..

For performance upgrades the best bang for the buck can be found here. Clicky clickŪ Motoza has a lot of options. For $350 you can get a 40 hp and 80 lb ft of torque boost. Spend a little more for big injectors and give it another decent bump. If you want to go beyond that be prepared to pay considerably more.
'03 A4 5-MT Motoza tuned Frankenturbo F21L With full supporting mods. Sold (and missed dearly).
'13 A5 6-MT Needs more Fun Stuff: Neuspeed PM / 3.0 TDI Intercooler / H&R OE Sport Springs / Bilstein B8 Shocks / TyrolSport Brake Stiffeners / ECS Short Shifter / S5 Side Skirts / RS Grille

Maintenance should always come before mods. Some of the best bang for the buck mods are a tune and highflow cat/ testpipe and downpipe. People have had really good experience with Motoza http://motozaperformance.com/AudiA4.html. You will also need a new diverter valve to hold up to the boost of a new tune. I would get a 710n. It's cheap, and I've been using it on my tuned car for 30k and it still holds just fine. For handling my favorite cheap mod was an 034 rear sway bar. Also you should put in a polyurethane snub mount.

i purchased a 2004 a4 cabriolet almost 2 years ago with 86k miles on it, i honestly should have just started replacing OEM parts as soon as i got it. i realllllly recommend doing a thorough check on all the mechanics of the car, suspension brakes tires and the cheap stuff you can improve your car with, a K&N air filter would run $50 most places, the oil filter is $12 spark plugs are an easy 3-9$ each depending on what you want, thats the TO DO list i'd give a new B6 owner if the car has over 100k miles on it. also keep an ear out for the fuel pump filter, mine went bad recently and its an easy fix. you might hear a whining sound coming from somewhere between the rear passenger seat and the rear passenger side wheel. that filters around $16.

P.S. make sure you have G12 coolant in there, not that cheapy green stuff. i've been having problems non stop because i just filled it up with normal green coolant.

You have several options. Dave@Motoza can send you a cable to use with a laptop or you can get a Bluetooth transmitter and use either your laptop or cell phone to load his tuning files. Once you determine the route you want to take Dave will send you the hardware and you read your current ECU file. You send it back to Dave and he makes the necessary changes. He sends you the new file and you upload it into your ECU. Easy Peasy!

It plugs into your OBDII port under the dash on the drivers side.

For a little over $100 you can pick up a Podi mechanical boost gauge and boost gauge pod. Well worth the $$ Clicky clickŪ

Would you even want it low in Alaska? I'm assuming you have shit roads like us, and giant ruts in the winter. My golf would always hit the pan on ruts on the stock ride height..!

First thing I'd do is replace the crank breather and associated pcv stuff. Every 1.8t I've bought has had that so sludged up, leaking vacuum, etc.

Maintenance Maintenance Maintenance. Before you spend a dime on "enhancements" make sure it runs as it did when it left the factory. That means all systems in place (PCV, SAI, proper routing of all vacuum lines, etc). Ideally, the CEL is off, so that when things don't run right with enhancements, you know you aren't chasing basic issues.

Start by reading this entire thread.

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...-by-a4darkness

Read it one more time. Then, read it again until you have a good grip on what's being replaced, how and why it's being replaced.

All of your basic maintenance is covered in one thread with detailed explanations & pictures.
If you have some mechanical skills you can DIY 100% of the tasks outlined in the thread and save yourself some serious $$.

The OEM PCV system someone mentioned earlier is prone to being gunked up. I wouldn't be surprised if it needs to be replaced.
Here's an awesome aftermarket kit (VIN confirm the correct kit for your vehicle):

    https://store.034motorsport.com/brea...-silicone.html

Last but not least, stay on top of your oil changes! Rotella T6 0W-40 is what run all year round with a LARGE Mann Filter, and it's a very popular choice amongst 1.8T owners.

Good luck and remember to search before posting new threads! 99.9% of the time the issue you're experiencing has been documented by someone else

It depends on which way you want to go.

When I started car racing as a younger lad, I had the honor of getting real bucket seats and kept the car stock except some good tires and suspension. This way taught me about balance and to control the car without sliding all over the seats. Its silly but it got me to a different mindset and level. Starting winning races left and right with this...and it helps to sharpen your driving skills a tad....
