Sorry man, this info is way far off for sure. So you are saying at 41°F that AS tires have no grip and are worthless. Granted I live in Oklahoma, so our winter weather is mild compared to the northern parts of the USA but AS tires do just fine grip wise at 40°F in the wet and dry and snow. You may be thinking of pure summer performance only tires, those are the ones listed as 40° being the cutoff point for safe traction, even then that is up for debate. Most all of my cars have been performance oriented and ran summer only tires. I drove my Vette on a cold dry winter day when it was 30° outside on a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Traction was just fine provided you were driving like a reasonable person.
In an AWD Audi even more the reason to think a good set of AS tires will be fine, I am running the Continental DWS06 tires on our SQ5. So far they have done nothing but impress me with their handling capabilities.
