    Squealing noise, tensioner?

Hey guys, trying to help my father out with his 2010 B8 a4. Late last night he got this noise at idle. As he turns up the rpm's the noise will go away.

My first thought was tensioner, then a vacuum leak, and the funny part is, after the car is turned off, it lingers for a split second, leading me to believe it's something other than the tensioner. But my gut tells me that.

I also tried releasing tension to see if the noise was constant and couldn't get the tensioner loose enough to stop spinning with out risking injury. (Needed a longer extension)

Any thoughts are most appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Is it actually revs or more throttle position?

When my PCV valve failed in my '09 a4 it sounded somewhat similar, but the noise went away with throttle (less vacuum) I could create the noise by letting off the throttle, and make it go away by adding throttle in the same gear - so very minimal RPM change.

No you have to get on it and raise rpm's up to like 3k before it will quiet. He decided to drop it at the shop, oil light came on. Ugh....

Sounds like you need a crankcase breather valve. The rubber diaphragm inside tears and causes a vacuum leak/lean condition.

By crank case breather do you mean the PCV valve? I just got the same high pitched squeel on my way to work. Goes away between 10hg and atm. Noise is present at idle and in boost. Car runs rough and the rpms in neutral go up to about 1500 and go back down. Pulling the oil plug for the dip stick makes the car run very rough but the sound goes away.

    Bad PCV valve?
