Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My heater core hoses have a little leak where they connect to the heater core. Anyone ever change them, is it a pain to connect them to the engine side? Any DIY's? Its an 02 1.8t

if it's the supply to the heater core, check out the coolant flange replacement DIYs. the supply hose will have to be disconnected from the coolant flange to be replaced. you will probably have to perform most of the DIY to reach the supply hose connection.

i'm not sure about the return hose, i imagine it is much easier.

It's the bottom hose. I forget if that's the inlet or return?

Bottom hose is supply. Top hose is return.

Not a terrible job just not a lot of room to work in. I removed the battery and the coolant reservoir to create a little more room. Remove the clamps and carefully remove the hoses from the heater core this might require the use of some sort of hook get between the hose and heater core nipple as the hose will be stuck to the nipple and you don't want to break the nipple off. Once the hoses are off there is a grommet that the hoses pass through to the engine compartment that needs to removed from the bottom of the battery tray compartment. The bottom hose connects to the supply hose directly under the suction jet pump just aft and under the intake manifold. The hose is disconnected by pulling the small wire clip outward to ta detent position on the hose fitting. The hose can the be pulled off of the fitting you will have wiggle pull on the hose to remove it. Feed the new hose through the grommet and reconnect the hoses and then install the grommet. Have a good time

Thanks for the responses. Turns out not only are the heater core hoses leaking, but so is the rear coolant flange.
