    As topic.

When i start my engine when havenīt been started itīs rattles for about1-3 seconds.. but not everytime..

it never happens when i have started the engine the same day.. and usually when itīs been colder in the night.

What is the actual issue that causes this.. is it the tensioner going bad or just some clog in the oil system?

Im thinking of filling my engine up with diesel in the oil an let it clean for 3 days.. then new oil and filter...

i just want to know if the tensioner is going bad or really the problem is just cleaning the system?

    Thx/ André

Mine does the same thing. I always just assumed the tensioner was slowly bleeding off pressure, so when you start it it rattles until oil pressure builds back up. I'd be surprised if flushing the oil system would help. My guess would be there's a seal that's a little worn and slowly leaking in the tensioner that lets the oil drain a little when it sits for long periods of time. I plan on replacing mine if I ever have to remove the head, but as for now I don't think it's bad enough to worry about.

Could be item #2. Anti-drain-back valve

Its suppose to prevent oil pressure from leaving the cylinder head...

Well i know this is a common problem buy i really want tp know what the actual problem is?

I never heard of that valve.. Dobu know if i have to remove the whole oil thingy to get to it?

So no one think it's the clog in the oil system?

Yes it might actuallu be a seal to thats worn out... After all it's got 28.000km to it:)

You can check your oil pressure at idle to see if it is within the recommended range. Here is a link showing how to test your oil pressure. Clicky clickŪ It's fairly straight forward and I check mine about once a year just to keep an eye on my engine's health. The link is a post in an outstanding thread that will help you understand how the oiling system functions.
