Drag strip help!! Car bogging like crazy

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So went to the 1/8 mile tonight with some buddies. Currently running 91 map with 6 gallons of 91, 6 gallons of 100, and 3 oz. Of Aces. Track is in the San Diego Chargers stadium parking lot so it is not a prepped track. My first run was great, launched great and car felt pretty good all the way through. (Oblidirated a Camaro), ran a 7.8. I did notice way more traction issues then I have ever felt in my car compared to Fontana raceway and even doing a launch on the street.
Here is where it all went south, next race, couldn't get car to launch so bogged like crazy off the line. (Ok could be user error I've had it happen before) but runs 3 and 4 the car launches great, (did feel a good amount of wheel spin, crappy track probably) but then my car shifts in to 2nd gear and literally felt like I wasn't getting any fuel or some type of Audi precautionary measure was happening. I would let off the gas and my car would feel fine after giving it gas again but WTF? I felt like a moron out there! Any thoughts?????

Did you hit the rev limiter coming out of first gear and did you ensure all traction control was off?

Yeah I turned the traction control button off, is there another setting or something? Also yes I hit the rev limiter.

Just to be clear, when you say "bog" I take that to mean the rpm's dropped low, like the 2k-3k rpm rang, taking you out of the power band? If that is the case, I would guess it was a DSG "issue" causing the car to short shift into 3rd after the 1-2 shift. But that just a guess

I don't have a ton of expirrence in my s6 and launching it, only had it for 6 weeks now. But the 6-8 times I launched it prior to the ECU tune it never did anything weird, just hooked and went. But in the 6-8 launches since stg 1 a couple of them have not gone right. I figure it has just been massive wheel spin and the car simply not liking it and short shifting. I don't know that I believe that with "traction control off" it truely disables everything

Sometimes if you hit the rev limiter it will bog and cut power. It's happened to me a few times in my S6. Some guys will manually shift out of first to avoid that.

Yeah I used bog, but that isn't the right word for what happened. It felt like it cut power! For some reason I was under the impression that I had to be in manual mode to launch the car so I've always done it that way. My buddy just informed me that I just need to be in Dynamic and trans in sport. So I just launched in automatic and it felt great! So not sure why it would cut power when you hit the rev limiter but???
I need to get back out there!!!!

Yeah, you're right, bog isn't the right word. It actually cuts power in my case when I hit the rev limit. Stumbles, then recovers but it's usually too late at that point.

Does your TCU tune automatically up shift in manual mode? If not it sounds like you were hitting the rev limiter and it was cutting power to protect the engine... Exactly what it's supposed to do.

It does! That's why I was just letting it shift automatically for me even though I was in manual. But now that I know i don't have to be in manual mode to launch I'll try it that way next time. Hopefully I can get past this issue. I definitely was not banging off the rev limiter as my tune will not allow it.
