One side of exhaust is hot?

    Car is an '06 A6 w/ the 3.2

With car at idle, if I put my hand over the left muffler, there is good consistent pressure and temperature is not too hot. My hand smelled like gasoline afterward (would this be caused by the fact that engine is currently burning rich?)

If I put my hand even near the right muffler, it feels constricted, and the exhaust itself is burning hot. My hand smelled like crap afterward.

I'm wondering what this difference might imply.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Might have a restricted CAT hut there should be an X pipe installed to equalize each bank

That's why I thought it was weird. I guess I'm going to get under it with an IR temperature gauge and see what I find.

If you have unburnt fuel entering the exhaust system and running through that cat which is about 1600 degrees internal it'll blow the cats out or melt them

It ended up raining and I don't have an undercover garage, so I never did.

What is considered the proper way to investigate this issue?
