HELP!!! All windows quit working including sunroof - stuck open!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I tried opening my front windows this morning....didn't work. Thought weird.....oh no. But then I hit my back windows....they went down. Tried my fronts again.....they went down. Thought just a glitch. So (like an idiot), I opened my sunroof too since it's very pleasant right now.

Get to the store....and nothing works, won't close. All four are down, sunroof is open. I try each individual switch, and try with the remote too. Totally dead. I come back home.....try again for the hell of it in my driveway, and they close....including my sunroof.

But like I said....I'm an idiot. I forgot about my back windows and shut my car off. I then realized my back were down. Tried to close. Turned key on, no go. Turned the car back on, still no go.

Please tell me there's an easy fix for this. Hopefully I can get the back up with another start/stop cycle or two. Hell knows I ain't putting the front down now.

Rain is coming tomorrow. I need an easy fix.....please!

Are you having any other electrical problems? When your ignition switch goes bad, you can lose a lot of other functions such as lights, blinkers and horn (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...pers-dont-work). Some of the plastic inside the ignition switch can melt and get between the electrical connectors, and can cause intermittent connectivity until it just stops working.

Everything else is fine, all other systems A-OK.

Next time I went out and started my car I got them up. And...I crossed my fingers and rolled down....and up. Worked.

But I'm scared as hell to try it again.

I checked the fuse box. All I see is a 20A for the sunroof, which is fine....didn't see anything for the windows.

Is there a relay? Or something to check in codes with my VAG scanner? I'd really like to know a possible reason and solution before rolling down again. I'm sure they'll get stuck down at the worst possible time if/when it happens again.

If it happens again, do try pulling and reseating the sunroof fuse. It may at least allow you to close your sunroof. It seems I need to do it about every 6 months or so.

    Thanks, will do. Can't hurt!

Just went and scanned all the common system codes too. I had like 15 random alarm codes...looks like it sets a code every time the alarm goes off and tells you where it was triggered from. Interesting. I reset them all. Windows still working....but I'm still worried. This is Oregon. It rains a lot and fall is almost here.....LOLZ

Reviving this just out of curiosity....

I haven't had any further issues, and I didn't "fix" anything. All windows and sunroof working just fine now.

But with fall here and winter coming, I'm still uneasy about this.

Anyone ever experience this or have suspicions of a cause?

Couple weeks back ALL of my interior lights came on and wouldn't turn off. Had to go run a couple errands and they stayed on for the drive, about 45 minutes all together. Got home and they were still on, never shut off. No switch or anything would turn them off so I started getting tools out and a multimeter and the laptop and was about to get a beer and dig into a mess.

    Then they turned off. Fixed!
    Who knows..

My sunroof also went haywire the other week at night and it was raining. Had to tape off garbage bags until the next day. I'm sure my sunroof is having issues w/ the track and not electrical as the motor works but the sunroof kept opening up as it was almost closed (I think it's a safety feature thinking an arm or hand is in the way and it automatically opens all the way up). I was able to close the sunroof manually by accessing the motor by removing the light cover furthest back. Then you can turn the motor by hand w/ an allen key. I've got it closed for now and all seems well w/ no leaks. Might be a good idea to store a spare allen key wrench in the car just in case it happens again.

I THINK that the cover for the fuse box has the manual crank for the sunroof
