Picked up a new Family ride

Picked up a ride for our soon to be family. Wife is 5 months pregnant so it was time to off the 04 GTI and look for something with a little more room.
I found a 2011 Avant with 75k miles and absolutely loved it. Going through the whole oil consumption thing right now so hopefully all goes well.

Going to keep the mods to minimum but RS grill and fog covers are on the menu in the near future... until then we just added tint.

I think the Standard grilles look better than the RS ones but they are very popular.

    Happy Motoring and Enjoy.

Was thinking the RS grill or just the license plate delete portion from ECS

I agree. This is why I went s4, every dick, tom and harry A4 modifier slaps on an RS4 grille, and OEM + wheels. Yawn.

    Nice Avant.

I concur with everyone else, skip the RS grille. Its just so plain, especially without a front plate. Plus its like the 1st exterior mod that every B8 boy racer does so its sort of played. The A/S grilles look better.

Yeah your right... I spent awhile looking over images on line and I think the stock license plate delete looks the best... I just can't get over the exposed Crash bar that I would need to paint and possible get wrong. I do want to get out of that "boybro racer" look. Plus it will save a bit of coin and a good detail will look better than the RS grill.

Hi Moreda55- welcome to B8 avant world! We are a rare breed-lol. I have the same ride, but '09, and "love" it tremendously. I've seen exactly 1or 2 Avant B8s in my 1 year of ownership in the NY/CT/NJ tristate area--sigh. Maybe they are more on the west coast. The thing about modding is that its all about what YOU like/want.

Anyways, I have the RS4 grille and love it; makes the car looks totally different & more sporty. I dont use a front plate, so its a clean look. will try to attach a pic....

Congrats on the new ride and good luck with everything, cheers!

    Thanks.

To be honest the wheels sold me on this car..... always loved these wheels when I first saw them on a RS4 years ago.

Welcome! Great wagon, and congrats on the soon to be addition to your fam. Like others have stated, I'm also a fan of the Black Optic S4 Grille over the RS. Nice wheels too! Is that an aftermarket exhaust I spy?

If you were to invest money. Stone guards really change the look of the car from a side profile.

I've been following your build your car looks amazing........ If I had Black or White I think I would go with the darker options like you did, but for me the silver actually work with the blue color pretty well.

I just order the front plate delete from ECS and going to put the money I would have spent on the RS grill and fogs on the detail the car needs. The dealership did a dealership detail and lots of swirl marks. A good friend of mine owns a detail place and is typically doing Ferraris and other high end cars so he should be able to make short work of my issues.

Not sure on the exhaust I think they are stock????? maybe?

I have a '12 dk blue avant, so it's nice to see another blue B8 Avant. I do have the "racer boy" RS4 grill, but I don't need or want a front tag area and my biga$$ FMIC shows up great this way . .

Damn that looks really clean.... making second guess my decision... well there is always the future.. I especially dig the wheels. I have always been a big fan of Gold wheels on cars as this was my old ride... total "racer boy".. I rally mis that car but the attention it got from cops was unbelievable... truth be told the Avant is my wife's car so I have to keep the mods low and keep her happy, she ultimately wanted to stay with the no RS style grill.. Happy Wife happy life, but I can at least make sure her ride is dialed.

Ok after going back and forth I decided just to go front plate delete for my ladies ride. was going to do the RS grill and might some day in the future but I am waiting to see if anyone ever does a front grill like the new RS7/RS6 with the Quattro one the bottom. I subscribe to a thread about this so we will see until this the car looks loads better with out the front plate.

I also noticed the chrome strip is missing front the bottom slat on the grill so i'll be ordering a replacement... I know a lot of people go all black but I think with this blue the car look pretty good with he chrome.

I should probably mention that last week while in Vegas for Interbike for work I was working around this thing for 3 days in our booth... Must say The S6 is choice.

Very nice! Congratulations. Good luck with the oil consumption. Went through that with a shop purchased one, but thankfully got it covered under warranty by a local dealer. If you need anything for it please don't hesitate to let me know.

Nice wagon! That chrome piece you're missing is part of an Audi accessory add-on that didn't come with the car from the factory. I'd be surprised if you can order an individual piece from a dealer without them making you order the whole set. The RS4 grille looks nice on Deep Sea Blue, as seen here on my old S4:

Also, tell Mike I said hello.

Welcome and Congrats on the Awesome new addition. You will like the versatility the Avant offers especially with a new baby on the way. I have to also agree with the other about keeping the original grille.

You can just go to autozone and get the chrome strip. I think its 1/8 inch.

    I added it on mine.

Update: As expected the car failed the oil consumption and is currently undergoing the stage two treatment at Audi and we should have it next week. Once it is back it is headed to the detailer for a solid detail and getting it ready for the winter. So far loving the car when I get to drive it, again it really is the wife's car.

I got this done to my b8 avant shortly after I bought it last year. Since getting the Pistons replaced life has been good on the engine and oil consumption is pretty much zero! Make sure you get the sunroof drains checked tho for clogs. I put it on the "nice to have list" instead of the must do list. 4 months later I had a massive leak and needed to replace my headliner and dry out a lot of the components in the passenger rear quarter compartment. Cost me a lot of money and could have been avoided.

Also, if you don't have one already, look into the canvasback custom fit rear liners Amazing buy and totally worth the money. My dog goes everywhere with me all the time and in the past year it has held up beyond my expectations. I got the one with the extra side bits but not the fold out bumper protector, I have another protector from NGP waiting for 20 free minutes to put on.

I also came from an Sti (only skimmed thru the thread so I'm not sure if that was you or not who posted.) 04 wrb built up to everything but the larger turbo. Too many miles on it and I wanted a wagon for practicality so I switched to this beauty:

And one of the new microsuede headliner I had to get to get rid of the water stain on the stock one... just for good measure:

Yeah. My dog is less stable on this until he lies down. But I have a bed in the back for him now which helps with that portion of it.

Thanks for the tip on Canvasbacks.. We have a little one on the way so I'm sure one diaper blow out/change and these thing will pay for them selves... Also thanks for the tip on the sunroof drains. I went through that issue with a GTI we had and it was a nightmare to deal with the local VW dealer who didn't want to do the warranty work. We purchased an additional warranty with the car for 2 years and 24K miles so I will definitely get them looked at.
