There is supposed to be a cap on that nipple for the fuel pump. New replacement pumps Also need a cap kit to cap off that port. Also there is a metal plate & gasket that goes over the fuel pump. Where is yours?

all new fuel pumps have that hole and there is a cap you also need to purchase as said above and again yes where is your metal plate that covers the fuel pump. you cant get mad at them because you bought a oem pump from them and didnt know you needed a cap

No it looks right. The fuel pump is on the passenger side and that black stain looks like it's the pass side.

Your right I didn't know. You know why? Because it wasn't in the description saying extra parts may be required. I bought OEM pump it's should be vehicle specific. Mine didnt have one so why should i have believed a new one would be any differnt. I mean seriously tho, I'm not a parts expert I know how to fix a car if it's broke. Pump works fine and fixed the problem. Not saying part is junk at all, just saying more info should of been told if it seems to be a common thing. Not everyone knows every quirk about every vehicle. It's not like a fuel pump is expert level job, it's a beginner, install was 100% correct.

While replacing a fuel pump is an easy job, it is up to the installer to read up on and follow proper replacement procedure (which would have instructed you to use the cap in this case). I sympathize with you because I know how it smells. A shitty mechanic recently test my fuel pump left that cap off which allowed fuel to spray out of the top of the tank and subsequently filling my cabin with fumes. The smell does dissipate. Unfortunately for you the metal fuel pump cover (and it's seal) were not correctly reinstalled, thus damaging your seat. I do not see how this is the fault of ECS nor anyone else. ECS could put a link to the cap in their description but it is not the distributors job to provide installation instructions, nor is it their responsibility to fix damage that occurred for incorrect installation (especially in the case where they provided no instruction).

Wow, you guys are being a little harsh on the dude. While I agree it is not the fault of ECS for selling an OEM pump, if there were not specific instructions with the new pump regarding that cap, then I say he gets a pass. I had something similar - the fuel pump was replaced by a dealer and they left the shipping cap on that nipple, the cap eventually split resulting in exactly what he has experienced. The metal cover and seal were intact but the seat was still saturated. If I remember correctly that nipple has something to do with recirculation on extreme cold weather cars.

OP - spray the foam down with simple green and let it sit outside for several days. The gas smell will dissipate. Sucks for you, but it is not permanently damaged. Rule of thumb, always closely compare the old part to the new part and question any differences....

Thank you for understanding. And I do apologize I problem shouldn't of said" not not buy" because the part works great and fixed my issue. I guess it just more principle for me. lf I wanted to do reasearch on the part and make sure it was correct and I had everything I should have with it I would of bought from napa, vip, autozone, ect. But I chose to buy from a company who specializes in selling vw, audi, bmw parts I put my trust in them cause of there great reputation that if there were extra parts I should/shouldn't buy it would be stated up front. As I am well aware they don't make the part and not blaming them for that, if people would read the email I sent them. Also I know the seat isn't a total loss and can be fixed and the smell will go away over time. It's just principle for me. Just like when I bought my motor mounts from them for same car. I found out the hard way that the passenger side needs spacers because they didn't sell them with them or adress the fact that extra parts are required. So at my own cost of lift time, I had to pull it back apart and put some spacers in the next day. Idk maybey I'm looking at it wrong. But I checked other sites after installing mounts and sure as shit, They come with spacers. Them the pump issue. No not a huge unfixable thing by any means. But thank you for understanding.

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate event of the fuel leakage. We offer just about every part available in the parts data base. That being said we are not a parts installer, though we offer many informational installation instructions it would be impossible to offer install instructions or notes for everything we offer on our site. One of the risks you take when choosing to wrench on your own vehicle is the possibility of not getting everything to complete the job. For many items we offer "Kits" which include everything needed to perform the replacement per dealership recommendations. Unfortunately we do not offer a kit like this for the S5 fuel pump at the moment.

Moving forward we do apologize for the inconvenience.

The problem isn't that you messed up. The problem is that you messed up and came in here trashing/blaming the vendor after already discussing it with the vender and receiving a free $50 gift card.

The vendor doesn't know all, they just sell parts. While the vendor has the responsibility to provide you parts that are actually for your vehicle when they claim to do so, it's not really on them to provide install advice (such as using a cap in this case) when it comes to specific applications.
