    A8 vs S8 ?

    Hello guys,

For the past couple of days i can not sleep well... constantly looking, reading and searching forums for some kind of answer.
Could someone please explain to me. What are the major differences between a d4 s8 and a 4.0t a8 ??

I am looking to get a 2012/13 model with up to 50k miles... but don't know if it's worth overpaying 20% for the " S " sticker? Is this the case ? Or the S8 is a must buy over a a8 4.0t ?

Thank you very very much !!

Hi, the S8 has a more robust 4.0T. It has a bigger crank, bigger turbos, better cooling, bigger brakes. The aftermarket tuning for the S8 will also produce very large gains. The S8 can run in the 10 second range when properly equipped pretty easily. I hope this helps with your decision.

The A8 is also available in the long wheel base, whereas the S8 is not. The S8 is a total hot rod.

You would buy the S8 for more but you would end up selling it for more as well. I chose the S8 because the A8, even in the 11 second quarter mile range when modded, was not going to be enough.

The long wheelbase option is one of the biggest differences. You can get your A8 in stretched limo form, but not the S8. When I was looking the only A8s I could find were the LWB versions.

Also, I'm not sure the 2012 A8s have the 4.0T motor.

I somehow can't find the correct information about the s8 engine. Is it the same, as the rs6 ?
They also share the same transmission as well, right ?

Correct, our 2012 has the 4.2 V8 motor

That I don't know the answer to. I believe the S8 is slightly detuned from the RS6, but I could be wrong. I also want to say that they do share the same trans but I also could be wrong about that
