Suspension rattles on gravel but not huge bumps.

Hey guys I'm reaching out to an expert here because I'm completely dumbfounded. I've been able to conclude that it isn't the upper control arms or tie rod because I've replaced them thinking that they were the source.

I've brought the car to Audi and they don't know what it could be. They said they tightened down every bolt in the well and they're just as clueless as I am.

The rattle only occurs on the smallest of bumps and I'm pretty certain it's only on bumps, not dips. Like a raise in the road, not a hole, but I'm not certain.

My next guess would be the sway bar link but I don't want to keep shooting out in the dark and burning holes in my bank account.

Also I'm lowered on st-X coils but the noise was happening before the install. Originally I thought that t was struts gone bad, hence the upgrade to coils.

Any help in the right direction at all would be greatly appreciated and I'll have a beer ready on me if I ever see you at a meet

When you installed the STs, did you replace the bushing in top of the strut mount (inside the engine bay)?

Sin are you referring to the rubber hat? I can't picture it myself right now. It only rattles on the one side and I'm 90% positive I did them the same, but due to that pinch bolt issue they were done over a month apart so now your comment has me wondering.

    Yes, the rubber "hat".

Haha sorry that's what someone else called it in a DIY post on here. Yea that part is in there nice and sturdy. I took the whole assembly out about a month ago and tightened down that too bolt on the strut too just in case that was it.

It may not be suspension related as it appears that you have replaced just about everything. Are your brakepad clips intact and secure? Does it rattle if you are applying the brake? I have heard brake pads rattling around in the caliper if the clip is missing or broken.

I am most interested in the solution to this post.
I have this same issue on my '06 C6.
At first, I thought it might be the sway bar links, but they've already been replaced by the previous owner.
When I had the front struts upgraded, they told me that there were absolutely no issues with the control arm bushings, etc.
So, I'm stumped for now. Someone was advocating the subframe mounts to me also. So, we'll see.

I think my next plan of action is the subframe mounts and bolts because they should really be replaced ever time they're loosened. Then the sway links.
If none of that works I have to find an Audi hobbiest mechanic in the area and have him diagnose it. I've got a recommendation or two I just haven't had the money with the move I'm going through this month.
I will have it sorted by next season though so I will follow up now that I know I'm not the only one!
