    P0345, new cam position sensor didn't fix

    My 03 2.7t allroad started idling a little rough one day leaving work. I initially thought it was just time for new sparkplugs but decided to break out the code reader to see if there was anything else going on. The check engine light was already on for a downstream o2 sensor I have to change. In addition to the O2 sensor code, I got a P0345 for cam position sensor bank 2. So I replaced that today(one of the easiest things I've done on this car even though it's the driver side. Lol).
    Didn't fix the issue. Code came right back.

    Any other ideas? Timing belt has about 40- 50k on it and car has 165k miles.

    Other than a little rough idle, and being a little soft on the bottom end leaving from a stop, it seems to run the same as usual from say 1200-1500 rpm on up.

    This car has definitely been a money pit and I thought most of the common problems had been fixed prior to my buying it. But when everything is good I love it, just wish that was more often. Lol.

    Bank 1 is on the passenger side and that is the easy one to get to. Bank 2 is in the back of the engine. here is a video for that.

    I did all that and still had to replace a coil pack.

    Yeah I did bank 2. Easier than most things I've done,but problem still there and code came back.

    Dis you get a sensor code on VCDS? or just do the least expensive fix for now?

    Just have a generic code reader right now. That's what pointed me to the sensor. Figured for $60 it was worth a shot. Lol.

    Swap the sensors between the banks and see if the error follows the sensor, if it DOES you got a bad sensor. If it doesn't then you have a wiring problem or something.
    BTW, $60 for that sensor is robbery. You should be able to get one for like $15-$20..I've used the cheapest ones I could find and they do the job- it's not a technical part. It's the exact same part they've used for decades on dozens of VAG models.

    I think I got a Bosch. Ordered it a couple months ago. I was ok with the price since it's one of the cheapest parts I've bought for it. Lol.
    I'm guessing it's wiring or something else since it's go the same code with the old and new sensor.

    Could it be the timing chain tensioner? Is there a way to check without tearing a bunch of stuff apart?

    No. That error is specific to the sensor.

    I'd still swap them side-to-side. I'd say that it's more likely you got a bad part or some part of the installation is fouled up than you developed a wiring issue that says the sensor is bad. There are 'open circuit' or 'short to plus' errors that happen when you have a wiring problem.
    It's not the chain tensioner, I can tell you that.

    Unplug the sensor and see if you get a different error.

    I would check timing belt alignment. This is listed as a possible issue along with a wiring issue on the RossTech Wiki.
