Trying to open your page to see the price, bought an ECS SS a few months ago and I love it. Any chance if there is a discount with the package I could get a knob at that rate, its been on my list.

The BFI shift knob in this package is only available when you purchase the kit which includes the shifter and the knob. We do have a variety of BFI shift knobs on our site though, unfortunately we do not offer any specific discounts.

For the knob? We don't have anything specific to B8, but take a look at the thread below which is for the MK7. Installing the knob is pretty much identical to how you would install it on a B8.

Just got mine, everything looks great but the BFI Coin, it is scratched, bubbled and the metal around the outside looks like shit. I have emailed sales, hoping to move this along so I can get a replacement as it will look silly without a coin. I am not putting that one in my car.

It is def a BFI issue not ECS, though they are my vendor. Not the smartest idea to put a staple through plastic, I doubt that is what cause some of the issues but the rest of the coin just looks poor.

While I balked at the price at first I got a small discount on it and went for it. What an worthwhile upgrade, I have always had weights knobs but I feel that this one really was needed. The mechanical feel of the ECS SS is nice but with stock knob I felt I needed more effort to shift and I had some mis shifts at times. I also have the USP clutch line. Combine all three and it was well worth the effort/price tag.

Sully do you have your knob all the way down on the shaft? I do and my boot looks akward as heck, tempted to buy the custom one from BFI with red thread. Assume it is for the shorter height.

Yes it's all the way down, but I am on a stock shifter which is obviously taller. I didn't go for the SS as I don't race and am not particularly bothered by the stock shifter (yet)

Ah, thanks. Well that SS was a pain to install, easier on a lift as getting under the linkage was a bitch but so worthwhile. I went from an s2000 which was the smoothest and best throw stock that I ever had to a notchy ass z06 to this. I felt the stock throw was a bit long. Def a worthwhile mod in the future.

There's typically a collar directly underneath the knob inside the leather. Pop the leather out from the base, fold it up, and you should see a hose clamp type thing clamping it to the rod.

To keep the knob secure and from rotating you need to make sure the set screws are tight. It wouldn't hurt to put some blue loctite on them either to keep them from backing out and coming loose.

this was my assumption after watching the short throw video, will i have to remove the whole shifter? or can i just roll the leather up and tighten them there?

No you shouldn't have to remove the whole shifter. Just roll the shift boot up to expose the bottom of the shift knob. The clamp that secures the boot to the knob should be above where the set screws are so you shouldn't have to mess with that either.

Also another good tip is to be sure one of the set screws finds the groove in the shifter rod. This will ultimately keep it from spinning. Don't worry about the orientation of the knob. Once you get it dialed in you can center the BFI coin so it reads properly. If you do NOT do this you risk having an off center coin.

I don't know why i didn't pay more attention to Jason's link.. it took me all of 30 seconds to fix .. glad i didn't follow JHM's video of removing the AC Panel then removing the center console and plugs.. i just used my pry tool to pry the boot up and viola.. tighten away

2 days in.. this is my fav mod on this car so far.. this weighted shift knob is a MUST for a MT owner.. it makes driving manual 100 times more fun

Agreed! Even without a new shifter, adding a weighted knob made a nice difference in feel. Of course, it didn't stop the "squeegie-squeak" sound my stock shifter is making, I think one of these nice short shifters may be on my Christmas wish list....
