Have a chance to buy a 2007 S6 5.2 V10. Are there any major or common issues with this engine and/or engine combination? Or is this something I should run from?

Condition is good with the exception of a dented fender and door. Miles are 75k. Not sure of maintenance history. Non-Audi dealer has it.

S6s are very maintenance heavy vehicles and can get very costly very fast. Without a service history or very deep pockets, I would walk away. Just MHO.

it has the same short block construction as 3.2 or 3.0T, just 2 cylinders more on every side with 84,5 bore. So the shortblock is built with alusil technology. If you buy this car, it can happen that you will replace the shortblock somewhen on you own cost.

Do you have an Audi currently? If so, get the VIN number and bring it to your maint. guy at audi and have him pull records. That’s what I did when I was looking at multiple A6’s. If the guy’s cool he’ll be candid and tell you what to look for and what the history looks like for free.

Not hate just looks like facts being stated, they are maintenance heavy, can cost a lot to repair and are not known for their bullet proof reliability. A 3.0 with tune and pulley is lighter and faster and more reliable.

Nizmo, I don't hate the S6 at all. In fact, if I could have one that was not my daily driver, I would snatch one up. Unfortunately, the cost of buying a S6 is getting in the range where non-enthusiasts may be tempted to jump in not fully understanding the commitment that this car is going to require.

S6/S8/RS6 = Double throttle bodies, double ECU's (Master/Slave) config, 8 O2's, Dual Harnesses, 10 Injectors, 10 Coilpacks...... Could be compared to maintaining your own 747 Ill give you that.

You'll need more than a tune and pulley to get past 400hp in your 3.0tease :)

    2007 Audi S6 V10 OK?

So now who is hating?? It is true that it will take more than a tune and a pulley to get to more than 400hp AT THE WHEELS which Is what APR is measuring. The V10 S6 doesn't put down 400hp AT THE WHEELS either. If you are going to compare, compare apples to apples. The S6 is rated at 429hp AT THE CRANK. Accounting for Quattro and driveline loss, you are talking approx. 365hp at the wheels.

There are 3.0 "tease" putting more than that down at the wheels with a stage II tune and pulley.

Now if you are talking "exotic" factor, then the S6 wins every time.

I've no axe to grind here, I'm a 3.0T as yet unteased, but if I want anything from this forum it's sensible advice.

The appeal of an S6 is of course huge at first glance but with limited pockets I want to hear all sides of the argument.

I have respect for all German machines.

For any kind of NET HP numbers I should refer to Crank HP, as drive-train loss can be vehicle dependent. Without any bias, you would need spend some significant money on the tune + accessories to get to that level. Any AWD car should be more interested in the NET TQ instead of HP.

S6 is good for 400 Tq pretty much all the way from 2K RPM - 7K

I have replaced my intake manifold as the S6 intake was an afterthought with the failures of these units. = $1900 cost alone. Maintenance is intensive, and expensive. Kills 100Hp if your manifold is bad. How many are bad? ALL OF THEM!

Other than that and small specific S6 issues, they are the same car. You replace 6 plugs in your 3.0, and 10 in the S6. The numbers on the receipt are higher in price and quantity, but you went to the parts store for plugs anyways right?

All that said, we wouldn't have the S6 without the A6.

By driving it - sucking / hissing sound and very sluggish off the start.

Is that the pcv? What is wrong with the intake? Is it cracked or poorly designed?

The problem with the manifolds are that the "Flaps" inside the manifold are plastic, and wear out. This is all very common with other "plastic" parts not limited to Audi... (cough "BMW")

Generally speaking, you really wont know if the manifold is bad, you wont necessarily hear anything or notice anything. My case it sounded like timing chains....

For all of you guys looking for actual C6 S6 information, go to audirevolution (dot) net instead... all of us owners are over there... AZ blocks links also, so I think that may have something to do with why the migration happened long long ago...

If you want a C6... buy it... but make sure you have a lot of cash on hand to cover maintenance starting out... over $10k into my car on top of purchase price... Intake manifold is being redesigned by Audi... Mine isn't perfect, but car runs fine... New one should be coming from corporate within a month or so, but time will tell... Outside of that, it's mostly just gaskets/seals to address and better to have a good mechanic that will have empathy lol... you can see my thread on ownership at AudiRevolution (SIX6SIX Intro Thread).

The S6 v10 is a blast. Throw a 93 tune on it and a few performance parts along the way and you bought yourself a rocket! Looking to add a tecturk exhaust out of Chicago.

Cosign this... the JHM tune, exhaust, spacers, etc change everything. It's a completely different car now than when I got it (has a Unitronic tune on it when I got it, but JHM > ).

The new intake manifold, as with a lot of other Audi's really restores lost performance. Many sell these cars before getting the manifolds replaced, albeit a $1k repair, its the difference between love and hate of these cars.
