Torque Converter

I have a couple questions. I've searched everywhere and can't find a write up or any information that I'm looking for. This is for my gf's 00' A6 2.8 Quattro. 1. Do I have to match numbers on a torque converter like I would a transmission? Or are they all the same aslong as its for that specific car. 2. Is it simply dropping the transmission and unbolting it from the trans and then bolting the new one on? Do I have to deal with any ATF and refilling or anything? If anybody has tackled this job or knows where there is a write up please let me know.

If you're just swapping the converter, drain the pan, remove the trans, pull out the converter from the trans (no bolts), put the new converter into the trans, reinstall the trans to the car, refill, start car, finish filling.

As long as the converter is for your vehicle it will work.

I've called indie shops Audi/VW dealers everybody stutters and gives me information that I know to be incorrect. I figured that's the way to do it but was kind of scared to touch it until I heard from someone who seems to know what's going on. Thank you!

You're welcome buddy! Transmission is a transmission. They're all pretty much alike.

As these cars age the info will be harder to get, it's worth the money to buy a Bentley for the chassis if you plan on keeping the car for any amount of time.

I was thinking that. That maybe all the Audi techs are being specifically trained on newer models so don't really know. I got my TC today in the mail. I'll let you know how it goes. Again thank you.

Hey I need some advice. Just double checking I'm doing this right. I finally got the time and started this morning. Tell me I if I have the right plan in my head. Jack car on 4 jack stands>drain the pan>remove cv axles>remove exhaust>unbolt torque converter from engine>unbolt trans>lower trans probably about 6-8"?>pull old tc out>put new one in>reinstall trans and tc>fill trans with a fluid pump until it starts to overflow>start engine and shift through each gear>continue to fill until it overflows again. Does that sound about right?
