I am looking into buy a 2012 A7 3.0 tfsi. I don't know much about the 3.0 supercharged engine but have heard good things. However, I am wanting to hear opinions on those who own a 2012 or newer A7. How reliable are these engines? How is the maintenance on them? All that good stuff. Any input helps before I make a decision! (also please post mileage of your ride) thanks all!

You should check out the B8 S4 forum, lots info there.

Water thermostat is a ticking time bomb failure, about 3 year or 30k miles is generally safe, after that good luck. See TSB.

PCV valve has been an issue for a few people, see TSB.

Crank SC pulley has seen some failures.

SC heat exchanger in grille needs a protection screen.

Thanks for the info! Already learned a ton from the recommendations you gave me. Looks like smaller stuff with the engine like the thermostat and maybe electrical stuff for the earlier 2012 and mid 2012 cars.

My experiences with my 2012 A6 3.0T Premium Plus now at 95K miles. Fuel rail leaks. (replaced under recall). Thermostat overheating issues. (Replaced. Supercharger, Lower Intakes and other items needs to be removed to access thermostat). Broken valve spring for #5 cylinder. ($6,200 repair to replace left head.) Problem with cogging in electric steering during winter was never able to be corrected. I recently removed supercharger, lower intake manifolds, fuel injectors, replaced left side fuel injector harness and spendt 5 hours cleaning carbon and oil residue off intake valves. This engine does not appear to be built to last over 75K miles. The cost to own this vehicle over the last 5 years has been excessive.
