Question about when to shift on A3

Now that she's broken in I'm pushing her a bit harder. S mode loves to hit the solid red line but I don't lol. If I was to shift in manual is there an Rpm number where the peak power is made or should I always red line it to get the best time?

I think the actual redline is 500rpm above where the "red" line begins (at 6500) - not sure though! Maybe thats why S mode keeps it until ~7k.

Ya that was another question, is the red line at the start of the red dots or at the start of the red solid line, does it even make a difference? I just cringe in s mode because it looks like it's going over.... But it's so much fun lol

I doubt factory S configuration goes over the actual redline!

I'm with you bud. The thought of hitting redline makes me cringe but good Lord these cars love to rev. If you want smooth delivery of power let her rip. I tend to shift at about 5500.
I don't do it all the time but I do look forward to hitting the on ramps - :)
Even if the vehicle is in sport or dynamic and in manual mode, the dsg will auto shift at redline or at least the S3 does so I would expect the same from the A3.
These motors sure do love to rev - did I just repeat myself.

There's no need to cringe when hitting redline, that's why it's there. The engine is not going to explode.

As to whether you're getting optimal acceleration by revving all the way to redline, I can't say. Most likely boost is tapering off on the A3.

Agreed. I had Honda's most of my life and always revved to redline - that's where all the power on those cars are - one simply needs to wind the crap out of it in every gear.

I guess because these are German cars, its more out of respect than anything or that's how I like to think of it.

As for actual redline, looks to be at 6500 but rated at 6200RPMs usually where the broken redline becomes a solid line is where it would hit at maximum throttle and gear change.

    HP - 220 @ 4500 - 6200RPM
    TQ - 258 @ 1600 - 4400RPM

Lol thanks I know that but still it can't be good to constantly hit it. Come on give me a break I finally got my kids out of car seats so this is my first sporty car since my 1997 civic si. That thing was a tank and I was only 20 so I lived on the redline with that beast and it never died even after 250000 hard kms.

normal driving, i like to shift at 4k rpms. aggressive driving, just before redline seems to be the sweet spot.
