CEL after VVT TSB done y dealer

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
2013 B8.5 S4 34k miles, dealership replaced everything per TSB for the VVT.

CEL keeps coming on...and here's the kicker....5 to 6 restarts after they clear it. Dealership has had my car almost 5 weeks, after waiting for parts, broken bolt, bent timing tool...the worst customer service I've ever received in my life for any product ever, but that's a story for another time.

Has anybody had this issue in the past after the VVT TSB?

Had a pic from my Torque Pro app to show exact 2 CEL's but lost it, will find it and post up...it's for timing advance on cold idle (or something like that)

Moderators please fix my spelling error in title, it should say "CEL after VVT TSB done by dealer"

You're not going to like this, but take that shit back to that shit dealer and then call AOA. Tell them the incompetent dealer can't fix your car. Clearing a code isn't going to fix the problem causing it. They are incompetent and they basically are trying to get you to go away so that they don't have to be responsible for the botched repairs. Call AOA and request either a master mechanic/shop foreman to fix your shit or that they move your warranty work to another local dealership that's actually got some competent mechanics. Don't try to fix this yourself because it'll come back and bite you in the ass eventually.

Glad to see your back on the forum and couldn't agree more. Get AoA involved and get your car fixed correctly by a dealer.

It jumped a tooth on the other chain so they pulled the motor to fix that, that's what they just did a d completed yesterday. However the CEL still comes on after 5 or 6 restarts.

Sorry to hear man! I am reluctant to pursue this tsb...I think the odds that a dealer botches the repair are higher than the odds of an engine issue from the defect.

Ok so FYI guys cold start rattle from tensioners is due to hydraulic pressure.Tsb states does not affect the engine or reliability.Noise only lasts 1-3 seconds until pressure comes up.

I figured this out after the stealership had my car. I thought it was bec the VVT chain also needed replaced bec it would stretch due heating/cooling over time.

It does run super quiet though. (Had the car for a day b4 the CEL turned back on)

The good is the stealership told me they figured it out, something about the old crush washer was accidentally left on 1 of the tensioners or bolts or something.

Most people wount even notice the noise you have to be very particular. No need to pull the motor to do that job.

    I am particular ;-p

But my main reason was fear of the chain breaking or slipping off and bending valves. I jumped the gun. It truly is night and day difference on how quiet it is though.

Yes I agree but the noise is normal before hydraulic pressure is built up and poses no danger to the engine.

whoa whoa whoa i thought this timing chain tensioner deal was only a b8 issue per the TSB? Also, I would be afraid if my vehicle just had a surgery and it wasn't done perfectly right upon receiving it and subsequently had to wait another 5 weeks without knowing what is going on. . . wtf
invasive surgeries that crack open the engine. i think i'll just sale it if I have to do that especially if I have to pay for it but that's just my own special kind of crazy showing.

Edit: I see it is for 2011 -2014

How bizarre?! so 2010's are all clear and 15's / 16's too? strange

Well the dealership is paying my Sept car payment and offering me a warranty extension on my s4 after my oem warranty expires may of 2017.

It helps but I still filed a complaint with AOA and reported them to the BBB. It's more than just the TSB thou, their service dept is total and complete shit. Their service manager seems 2b a nice dude whom is trying 2 do the right thing but it's too late. I'll go to a dealership in another state b4 I go back 2 them.

Got my car back today, lifted the hood 2 find my intake not even fully attached, it was in the right spot but so lose I could remove it with my fingers also my back engine cover, the 1 with the 4 rings on it was not put on correctly...how do u fuck that up?!

Lastly it makes a squealing noise that gets louder with increased throttle, something is up with 1 of the belts or pullies. I called the dealer back up, they r picking my car up from me at work tomorrow, I'm also calling a lawyer, my uncle to find out what legal rights if any that I have. Lastly calling AOA to formally file a complaint against the dealer for so much shit they've done to wrong me I honestly can't remember it all.

Those ******s had my car 5.5 weeks. Now it's going back...idk how it's possible 2 fuck that much stuff up, I'm speechless at this point. The bastard in their service department that worked on my car is lucky I don't wanna go to jail because I'd like to kick his teeth in.

You obviously need to go into that service department and be an asshole. The incompetence is high with these asshats. Post dealership name, name of SA and the fucking idiot wrench monkey that worked on your car. All of that should be on your invoice. I fucking hate places like that!!!

Audi of Dublin, OH. I'll have 2 look on pp work for the names when I get a second.

Believe me, I have been that asshole I walked in there last time in my damn police uniform after work to hopefully put the point across that I'm not the guy 2 fuck with. So far they contacted AOA and they are going 2 pay my next car payment (I won't hold my breath). That was b4 the now most current issue.

I'd Lemon Law that mother****** and be done with it. Let them eat it! You'll need to check on the law specifics in your state, but I think the basics are, 3 tries and you're done.

This wold be #3. I don't see anything in the lemon law that would pertain 2 my situation because in Ohio is 2 years or 18k miles of the vehicle being new. But I'm still researching.

Your situation is about as ridiculous as the one with that guy who bought a 911 and had electrical and other issues with it and Porsche ended up buying it back from him and giving him another car. He ended up going the social media route to make them look bad. But in the case of that one I think, the car was just buggy from the factory and the dealership also couldn't fix it. In your case, it seems it's just because incompetent mechanics which should probably be fired. I hate having to give my car to a dealer who has someone work on it that's never done the same procedure ever before and they just fuck it all up. I guess some people are just stupid idiots. I'm sorry, but I have worked on my cars off and on for quite some time ever since I got my first one and like last week I had to do the crank pulley change on mine. Granted it's not rocket science by any means, but if you wanna get down to facts, it was my first time putting it in service mode, changing the crank pulley on this car, etc. I did it all with hand tools and didn't fuck anything up whatsoever. The last time I took my car to the dealer to get the thermostat replaced and the PCV swapped at the same time, it came back with engine covers not snapped on properly, intake misaligned, screws that hold on the radiator cover/intake cowl stripped and so on and so forth. I mean seriously... WTF?!?!? Working on cars has to be the most basic of shit to be able to do and if you can't even fucking do that without ruining stuff or not giving a fuck, how do you make it in life?!?! OK, rant over... fuck!

I know man...seriously how do some people function. I love my S4 and wold like it fixed, but if I could get my hands on a gently used prestige S3, I'd be happy as well lol.

I empathize with your issue, having had several unfortunate dealings with AoA and a dealer.

However, using your position as a police officer to make a purposefully negative impression really doesn't help you guys out. Not to mention it's completely irresponsible, unprofessional and unbecoming.

I'm sorry you feel like that's what you have to do to make progress, and that you feel that it's OK to do so.

Irresponsible, unprofessional, and unbecoming? Hardly, I had to go there straight after work to pick it up on the previous time it was supposedly fixed because they were closing. Did I hope the fact of my career set lit a fire under their ass? Yes, and if that makes me a bad person, so be it.
