    Shop/Mechanic recommendations for B5 project

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

I have been out of the B5 for some time now but I found a car, that was most certainly neglected, that tugged at my heart strings and now I am back in! I the car was not to truly drivable as it wont go into first or second gear; obvious 1-2 shift collar. Regardless, I sourced a new 6-speed from another low milage B5 and I am in need of a shop/mechanic to pull the motor and trans to do the swap.

Does anyone know of such a person/place that would be of assistance? Anywhere in SoCal.

I went to Eurocode in Torrence to get my APR stage 1 done, good group of guys. I know they do all types of work, including service work so they may be able to help out, or at a minimum recommend someone.

There are a number of enthusiasts in SoCal who are well-versed in the B5 S4, who may be willing to help out.

There's a guy in Corona who works on B5 S4s on the side in his home, for pay. Might be worth contacting him:

Personally I have an engine crane and engine stand, but I've only pulled the engine/trans from my 1.8T... though it's quite similar to the 2.7T.

While I'm always down to find a local shop, I've discovered the best thing you can do is get someone who's potentially willing to do the work, but also give you knowledge. Another +1 for JBallou.

Finding the right shop and someone you can trust is key.

I do work on these cars on the side. I usually like to see the car before hand so we can set a plan, figure out what is broken/issues and have a plan of attack. Just have to realize that with the age of these cars, some people put garbage parts on these cars, fix things cheaply, and or just leave things broken. I like putting plans together that address all these types of issues. You don't have to fix everything at once (but usually cheaper to do it this route, but sometimes is a lot of up front money,) but at least you understand the intricacies of these cars and what they require as far and maintenance goes.

I have also been making DIY videos for you guys that want to try and fix things yourself. My only thing about it all is that you don't skip or skimp on quality parts and processes.

I am not a shop, just a very knowledgeable enthusiast that hates to see B5 S4 guys taken advantage of. I work on these cars to help pay for my own tools and pay for my own B5 S4. I don't like to be rushed to get your car fixed, I take my time, but can't always work on "your" car everyday as I do have a regular job. I will mock your car (don't get me wrong though, I love your B5 S4 and would keep it,) and find other issues with it, but I do believe that an informed owner is going to be better off in the long run. Plan, plan, plan is key on these cars.

Fares is a stand up guy. he used to be master tech over at rusnak audi pasadena. make sure u talk to him and tell him matthew with the silver b6 a4 sent you. However he does not like touching anything aftermarket, strictly and OEM kind of guy. great for maintenance stuff.
