    Possible fuel gauge issue

so I have recently replaced the fuel filter on my Allroad, now my wife thinks it is having issues with the fuel gauge, could this be an issue with the fuel pump, it has been having some hard starts from time to time. sporadic hard turn overs, it did leak a bit when i first put it on, but realized I let it loosen on one end on accident. ws at 1/4 of a tank and drove maybe 6 miles and tank is sitting at empty. no gas noticed on ground either ( or evap stain.)

    any helpful insight please.

Think it may need to be reset by removing the fuel pump and instrument cluster fuse?
