Help: wires and adapters to mimic iPhone to screen

Hey Crew,

Can someone help a brotha out and point me in the right direction...

I believe I read a post way back about this... I have a '12 Audi A7 and wanted to mimic my iPhone onto the screen. What are the necessary wires and adapters needed to do so?

Mind sending links through on where to purchase and the specific ones that y'all feel work best.

on the 2012, you can use the factory rca to ami cable connected to a hdmi to rca adapter and then finally the apple hdmi plug goes into that. not the neatest solution out there but it will work

Interesting..and this will mirror the iPhone video to the MMI screen?
Might be nice option now that DirecTV announced streaming of almost all channels from your home package without using up data.

at the moment no. i just have video in motion for the time being but one of my customers that i sold a s5 to actually runs a local company here that makes multimedia interface hookups for our cars, has something, i just need to get my car out to him for testing

Hey - thanks for posting this - replicating my iPhone screen to the MMI display (for Navigation, primarily) is something I've wanted to do ever since I bought my S4 6 years ago. I didn't know that it was so (relatively) easy.

I looked on Amazon, and got lost trying to figure out exactly which cables and adapters I'd need, so would you mind recommending at least the specific types that would be required, or better yet linking me to them?

Then you will need to make sure that the hdmi adapter has power and would also be good to run power to the apple plug so that it charges while in use.

If you get something going pls let me know. Would love to have this function. I don't have the VIM enabled since I can't do it with VAG but would love to be able to have Waze on the main MMI screen.

everything shows up, it is full mirroring. i used to do it on my cars wirelessly using the rca plus something called kivic 1 but ran into issues with apple and DRM protection on certain apps. everything would mirror over just find but apps like netflix and other streaming apps are locked out and this was ever since iOS9 and up. not sure what the deal is now and if things have changed but you can also use an apple tv and get wireless mirroring as well using the hot spot in the car as a router

That cable isn't so easy to find - the others were no problem, as you mentioned. I'm impatient (after waiting 6 years - LOL) and want to get this done now (or on Thursday with Amazon Prime shipping), but looks like that won't be possible.

all of it is somewhat pointless unless you get the VIM done otherwise it's only useful at a standstill. this also ONLY pertains to pre-facelift cars as the c7.5's no use usb instead of the proprietary AMI cable. i am currently working on a solution for the face lifts though

Would this setup work taking HDMI out of the equation completely? Video quality is going to suffer a bit anyway from the RCA cables right?

Right - That cable (or one just like it) is on Amazon, too, with ~3 week delivery from mainland China, AND the reviews pretty much all say the cable doesn't work ("not recognized" or words to that effect). That's why I haven't pulled the trigger as yet.

in general yes, but dealers are sold out, there are a few cables in toronto dealers. (i work for a dealer)

VIM isn't required, only a requirement if you plan to mirror while moving which i assume you do
