    Brakes: Possible upgrade questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

So, I'm in need of at least pads soon. Possible rotors as well. I am not sure if I should just get new pads and rotors (basic). Or go with a slightly better drilled/slotted rotors and pads. Or upgrade to a big brake kit. I only had the car a couple of months so it is stock still but my plan is to bring it to stage 2 with the pulley.

I'm looking for some recommendations of possible kits.

    Thanks!

Why would you need new rotors are they warped? Do you track or autocross, that would be the real reason for getting some swoopty dimpled/slotted rotors and a BBK.

While we're on this topic, what pads do you all recommend to replace on a stock setup?
    S4 (B8) DSG / Quartz Gray Metallic / VAG-COM / 3M Crystalline 70% sides 30% rear / Roc-Euro Intake / APR Stage II / Non-res Milltek / Alu Kreuz Stabilizer / Eurocode Front & Rear Sways & Endlinks / 19x9.5 AG M590 / PSS / RS4 Grill / P3 Gauge / Bilstein PSS10 / AMS Boost Cooler System / ENLAES Rear Spoiler & Diffuser / OSIR Front Splitter

I'm about to do the pad switch myself on stock rotors to get rid of the damn squeal. Akebono ceramics are the ones I planned on going with. Any others to consider?

If you want to upgrade and are not racing just do Akebono pads.

Gf drives the car mostly. Went with ecs tuning cross drilled slotted rotor replacements and akebono pads.

I feel the difference that that OEM feeling "bite" is slightly decreased but the akebono squeals no more and the dust is a lot better. And I feel I can better modulate my braking to a smoother controlled stop. No vibration or weird rumbling from the cross drilled and slotted rotors either.

akebonos if youre not tracking, this is like a no brainer unless you are glutton for punishment and love to clean your wheels.

drilled and slotted rotors because racecar!

I don't absolutely need rotors currently but if I'm going to do some upgrades I thought I would get rotors since pads are at least needed. I do canyon runs and have a nice track near me that I want to start going to. I think everyone has a good point and do just the ECS drill/slotted rotors if i do any upgrade to rotors.

If you are going to track the car then truly think about ss lines, better fluid and a set of track pads as a minimum. Even then do a couple cool down laps every 10 minutes of hard driving or you can definitely boil your fluid and lose your pedal.

I just pulled the trigger on Q5 4 piston Brembo calipers that you can grab for $800US to compliment my ECS 2 piece wave rotors. Ss lines and motul 600. Will run Hawk DTC60 pads at the track since it is super easy to swap the pads put on the Q5 caliper. Going to also install Macan air deflectors and Macan dust shields for better air flow to the calipers.

I agree definitely with the fluid. Fluid is a major factor and a lot of people don't think about fluid. Right now this car is a daily so I'm trying to avoid running it hard but do the road I want start bringing it to the track so I was thinking about being proactive and do the upgrades now but I might just do pads for now, I'm pretty sure my current rotors will last until I want to start using it more for track and aggressive driving.

this pic doesn't prove the fact that akebonos produce much less dust haha ;) !!

Haha that was right after install. And the car needs a wash terribly.

    Thank you for reminding me.

Where are you sourcing the macan defelectors and shields from? Do you happen to have part numbers?

I ran the ECS upgrade kit with Hawk pads. Great setup. I also purchased the SS lines. Fluid will also make a big difference on the track, not so much on the street. BTW, I am selling my rotors and a new set of Porterfield Race pads in the classifieds if anyone is interested?
