Turnsignals Always On Problem with my A6

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, this is the B5S4 forum. This forum gets about ten times the traffic the A6 forum gets and the cars are pretty similar electrically (and lotsa other stuff).

My problem is the turnsignals are always on even when the car is turned off. Here's my post in the C5 section replying to another guy with the same problem:

I'm having this exact problem: the turnsignals and sidemarkers are on all the time. It appears to be the turnsigs instead of the parking lights because the signal indicators in the instrument panel are on all the time. The only way to turn them off is to disconnect the battery. Since I have lotsa parts from a crashed A6 I bought a coupla years ago, I've done these things:

    1. R&R hazard switch; unplugging the switch turns everything off but the turnsigs don't work then.
    2. R&R headlight switch
    3. R&R turnsignal switch
    4. Reseated every single ground I can find.
    5. Checked every fuse for continutity.
    6. Reseated every relay and power bus cable.
    7. Did the driver's side sunvisor thing as suggested above.

Thus far nothing has made any difference whatsoever. The car has been sitting for a little while but ran fine when it was parked and I didn't see the lights on then. I had to retime the driver's side exhaust cam (I effed it up during a timing belt change) to get the car roadworthy and now this. I did go back and check the connections under the coolant tank; no joy.

Any other suggestions before I donate the POS? I would really appreciate any new ideas. TIA

    Prob the coil adapters

Man, that is a tough one. Make sure you have the right bulbs in there also. Putting a single into a dual socket can do some evil shit.
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

Gotta watch out for those adapters. Can bring out the ban hammer...

Yeah, a single in a dual would cause trouble for sure but I've not dicked with the bulbs at all. I'm gonna go check them anyway. Tanks.

I tried to warn you, lol. You still making them? Def the best setup imho.

When I was younger I was working on a car that had the funk, dash lights and some other weird stuff would happen when you hit the brakes.
I thought I was proper fkd, but luckily a buddy had seen it before and mentioned the bulb thing before I started tearing it down.

    Yep, still at it.

Here's the solution and it might have applicability to the B5 platform. I don't know where the Central Locking Module is on the S4 but on the A6 it's on the floor in front of the driver's seat. Here's what I did:

So, the wife gets home with the S4 and I do a signal check at the hazard switch. Hmmm ... the signal from the central locking module is high and it should be low. Now where's the CLM on the A6? On the floor under the carpet "in a protective box" (quoted from the manual). Oh yeah, during the car's time out, the rain tray drain got plugged and the driver's footwell flooded. Shit. I cut the wire from the CLM (pin 6 on the hazard switch connector) and Viola! No turnsigs on at all times. That signal is what flashes the lights when you arm the alarm and lock or unlock the doors. If you'd rather drive than worry about it in the short term, the wire is easily fixed later. Getting at the CLM is an entirely different matter...

So, if you get the turnsignals, look at pin 6 on the hazard switch. If its 12v, there's your problem...

    Nice find!!

CLP is right by the rr tail light in an s4.
Not sure is a6 is the same, but they are getting tougher to come by.
