    What brake rotors to get??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Am interested in ECS tuning rotors or Girodisc but have been given some confusing opinions over the last couple days. Was also told to go with stock pads. I am not taking the car to the track, just some hard daily driving and hard back road driving. Don't care about brake dust or noise, just good all around performance and longevity. Your experiences and opinions would be much appreciated, thanks guys!!

When I did my brakes last Oct. Stoptech rotors were out of stock everywhere I called. Ended up using OEM rotors, already had the SS lines, went with Hawk HPS pads. They are a little dusty, and squeak pretty good after some dust has built up, but they have a good bite. My recommendation would be Stop Tech rotors all around and flavor of choice for pads- but not oem because of the rivet in the pad for the wear sensor: it ends up carving a groove in your rotor's disc. Plus being able to just replace the ring later is solid.

Thanks for the input! Had not heard that about the stock pads. I did already order SS lines from ECS, so I'm on the right track there and yes I like the idea of just replacing the rings next time too. Thanks again!

I'm running Stoptech Aerorotors all the way around with Stoptech Sport pads. They are incredible!!!!! The bite and stopping power is unlike anything I've ever felt before...they slow me down in any situation with ease. Also, the Aerorotors are 2-piece, so you can replace the rotor face easily without replacing the entire rotor. Stoptech is a company fully focused on performance brake systems, and only that. They have my vote!!! GL

We have a few customers using the StopTech rotors for both street and track use and they have been working great. We keep the kit in stock and also stock the replacement rings, both with free shipping in the continental USA and no tax outside WA state.

Stoptech rotors, pads and SS lines all around. So far, so good!

I went with Stoptech Aerohats as well, but this time instead of Stoptech pads again, I went with Carbotechs, and couldn't be happier.

They have even less dust, and better bite than the Stoptechs, but have smooth, even braking. With my Stoptechs, no matter how many times I bed them in, I had some intermittent vibrations which drove me nuts!

Have yet to replace fronts but for the rears I went with Girodisc. Not much to say other than they work well and are light weight.

First of all.. too much win here!!!!!

I went with StopTech pads vs OEM and couldn't be happier. Def going with the full StopTech setup w/ SS lines when the time comes, which is prob 4-6 months away.

Make sure you plan ahead if you intend on using the AeroRotors. I already have fronts in hand, but I ordered the rears this past Sunday. I got a call on Monday from the retailer who told me their StopTech rep. got in touch and told them it could be up to 6 weeks before the rotors ship. Just a "heads up."

I have Girodisc rotors and SS pads sitting in the box. Will be put on in a few weeks. Just by the looks and feel, they are top notch!

Also, skip on OEM pads. They have pins in them that result in premature worn rotors.

Hoping the Hawk HPS pads I purchased are robot-free...

Some screaming deals can be had if you can find the Brembo part number vs the audi part number. Keep a look out for Brembo 09.9477.23, I bought a pair confirmed identical to the audi OEM front rotors. Less than half the price.

Great find -- are those just the rings or do they include the hats as well?

Also, have you found something similar for the rears??

No luck on the rears yet, but the fronts are fully assembled hats and rings!

A follow-up here. My rear rotors shipped within 2 business days of the order being placed, so lead time on the AeroRotors may not be as big of a concern as StopTech lead me to believe. YMMV.

Very shiny and the braking performance is very good. The lead time is long, I pre-ordered them in January and got them end-of April.
But they are very cheap at the moment, due to the British currency loosing value.

Oh really?? Okay, great to know. I'll research more about them. I'm about 4-6 months away so that might work out.
