    B8.5 starting from an incline

I know this may be a very stupid question, but I'm fairly new to my B8.5 S4 and it was very hard to search the forum for this. I'm not sure if it's some sort of help mechanism or something, but I just want to make sure it's not some problem with the drivetrain. If I'm driving the car, and I'm stopped and waiting on an incline, when I start to drive forward, it seems like there's a hesitation and then a release. It's almost like it's some type of braking mechanism that helps hold the car on an incline maybe as not to put the pressure on the transmission to hold it. I know on my other car (Ford Focus), if I use the parking brake, when I release it, it seems to still hold the car until I move it forward and it has a similar release feeling, but obviously I'm not using the park brake in this situation. I know I've seen some of ads for newer domestic cars (Ford comes to mind) that has some sort of incline hold mechanism. I don't have any other issues with it starting/moving except on an incline. Thanks and any input would be appreciated.

What other transmissions are there on the B8 S4? BUT, it is a factory feature only on the B8.5s. 2010-2012 models can have it if you activate the hill holder brake with a vag com. Did it on my 2011. Had it on my 2014. 2010 did not have it from factory. All 6MTs

My 2015 holds only when gear is selected and clutch is depressed. If I'm in neutral, it will not engage.

    I actually like this feature.

The only time I don't like the parking brake automatically engaging is when I am parallel parking and open my door to check my spacing from the curb.

Door open + Car in Drive/Reverse + foot on brake = automatic parking brake

You can. Actuated that by mistake on my 2011. No big deal. I can always manually engage the brake if I want to.
