Cat question

Hey guys just wondering if its normal for a cat to sit at around 450-500 degree C on a normal day. Just wondering as every time I turn my car off it seems to have a large amount of noise coming from the exhaust especially after a good hard drive. I am also experiencing some weird driving characteristics such as gears holding longer.

BTW car is a 02 A4 3.0

Yeah, that's normal, cat needs to be really hot to work well.
