Just test drove an 2016 S3. I loved it...but (leasing question)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, I've test driven nearly 10 vehicles in the last two weeks so far and I think the S3 is my favorite; however, it's also the most expensive vehicle I've tested so far. This is the S3 Premium Plus I drove:

    Now, I have a question.

The MSRP is $49,625 (residual was around 53% and MF was 0.00006). The dealer took $5000 off the top and an extra $500 for Conquest, resulting in the dealer selling price of $44,125 including Audi Care.

I countered with $42,000 and they didn't go for it. I suppose I don't know much about the typical deals people get for S3's built this way, but I wasn't intentionally trying to lowball them. I'll can give it a week and see if they'll meet me somewhere in the middle.

Was I wrong for asking for $42k? I'm thinking in the meantime, I'll find some other Audi dealers to see if any of them would consider matching my offer and pit the other dealerships against them.

I don't think you're wrong for offering that price. On the east coast, dealers are willing to give as much as 15% off msrp.

I would wait until the end of the month and/or at least check with a bunch of dealers within your desired search radius.

When searching, inquire with dealers that have the higher in stock quantities because the dealer with one or two will less likely negotiate as much.

    Good luck!

Thanks. That's what I figured. It's the only S3 they had available on the lot, so I'm sure they're trying to hold out on the best possible deal. I'm hoping the car will still be there by the end of the month as I'm sure the 2017's will also be on the way.

2017's will be getting to dealers soon next month probably. My dealership sold out of S3's like 2 months ago. I've had to get a couple S3's from other dealers. Unless the dealer needs to hit there number for the month they probably won't move much from there. Especially if it's there last one.

Really hope this works out for you. Sounds like a fair price you're throwing out there. PLUS they threw in AudiCare? Wish my dealer would've did that. But what did you mean by "conquest" price drop?

I use "Conquest" meaning that any kind of incentive to lease a different luxury brand. So, the $500 is kinda meant as incentive to switch over.

It helps neutralize the $400 disposition fee that I have to pay for not leasing another Infiniti, which is what I'm currently leasing.

Speaking of which, in doing my car research, I realized that my employer actually gives some additional incentive money toward my lease of any BMW or Mercedes-Benz vehicles, which I didn't know.

Is there a way for me to tell if my employer gives additional incentive money toward Audi? Is there a list?

you should be able to get 15% off plus the conquest money. thats without audi care

    so msrp $49.625 * 85 - 500 + 8**(audicare) = $42,5** is a good offer. if they wont do it, others will

Yeah, 15% should certainly be attainable especially with the '17s landing soon.

I think the residual would be higher if you waited for a 2017 to get there. It will be worth more in 24 or 36 month than a 2016. You may be able to get a lower price on a 2016 now, and just get a loan for it. Could be similar payment wise. I'm no expert, but look into the '17 for sure.

I haven't been able to find any dealers nearby with a similarly configured vehicle that's able to beat my local dealer's price of $44,125 with Audi Care. I'm feeling an itch to bite the bullet on this one a bit.

i did the same as you, walked out of a ton of dealerships. at the end of the month is when i landed mine, they were more flexible to get the delivery out. My MSRP was almost the same as yours (premium, B&O system, LED package, Tech package) and i got them down to $41,xxx. they end up caving. good luck!

When you say "at the end of the month", do you mean the very last day? the last week? I know the 30th is on a Friday. Should I wait until then or maybe a few days before?

Keep in mind that last month also had a $1250 rebate on the 2016 S3 that appears to be gone for September.

Oh wait! I found one actually.

It's gonna be interesting to see how this other dealer will be able to beat the price of the competition..

also how close to you to another state line. may or may not apply to you, but im located in NY. taxes are extremely high here. our neighboring states NJ, PA and CT have lower taxes. lower taxes allows them to flex on the price a bit. I ended up getting my car in NJ because they were able to crunch my numbers more due to the lower tax rate. just a thought...

Yeah, I'm dead center in central Iowa, so, I've been asking around in Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, and Illinois! lol

I believe Iowa has the lowest tax rate out of all of them, so, I should luck out pretty ok if they can do that.

Hi Simpson. I looked back at the terms of the deal you posted, and I think it is still a pretty good deal. At $44,125 including Audi care, they are selling you the car for around $43,275. That is actually about $6,350 discount, almost 13%. Not bad considering there is no other rebate money available that I know of. Make sure the increase the residual by 1% for Audi Care. I don't know the tax rates in Iowa. What lease payment where they quoting you?

One more point. Try to work a deal in the middle of the week as opposed to Saturday. Saturday's are the busiest day of the week. They may be more inclined to negotiate when there are fewer potential buyers around!

The taxes are based on where you register your vehicle. In my state taxes are 4.25% but neighboring states are 6% and up. We do a lot of business with out of state customers and they get charged the state taxes that they register the vehicle.

congratulations! Best of luck to you and the new car. Since my S4 has been in the body shop for the past month i've been driving my wife's S3 on the weekend. Took it for a spin today and it's unbelievable how well it handles right out of the box. The S4 feels like a Lincoln Town Car in comparison.

I love this car so much.

Took 4 of us out on a road trip the other night and everyone rode in pretty comfortably. So, it passed that test, despite being a subcompact.
