    5 speed gear oil level

Wondering if peering into the sight hole on the 5 speed I can verify the level? Not that there's a leak, just wondering.

You can't really see into the fill hole. Just stick your finger in and see how far below the level of the plug the oil is.

You fill it to the level of the open drain plug hole.

I read in another thread that the fill line is 1 millimeter below the fill hole. So there's three holes on this thing.. There's the sight hole, the fill hole and the drain hole.

As I recall rather than remove the fill hole I just poured 3 liters in since I drained it upside down.

If I recall correctly the 5-speed holds 2.7 liters. Simply remove the fill hole plug and see if anything runs out.

I think you might find that the site hole and the fill hole are one and the same. I'm pretty sure they didn't put a whole nother hole, wholly for the sake of checking the fluid level.

Pro Tip: Never use the hole on the bottom to check your fill level.

Real Pro Tip: Make sure the fill plug comes out before draining.

There's 3 holes. Plastic sight hole, fill hole and drain.

Do mean the hole filler for vehicles that don't have a speedometer sensor built in the transmission? Its to the right of the fill hole.

Other than that, I have no clue... Got link showing the plastic mystery hole?

I guess that's what I'm talking about. That plastic plug with the O-ring on it and the little arm that locks in place right next to the fill hole is what I was referring to. I had no idea what it was for. Mine does not have a sensor on it. It's simply a plug.

The '02 B6 utilizes a VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) in that location. From '03 on the VSS signal comes from the left front ABS sensor and consequently there is simply a plug in the VSS hole.
