    vehicle speed sensor

I have a 2005 B6 S4 avant and the speedometer has been going out and errors on vagcom have come up for the vehicle speed sensor. I was going to order a new one and wanted to find out if this is something that can be easily accessed from under the engine to replace or does it require more work than that to access it.

One other thing to add is that are abs errors also and I read recently that these cars actually do not have a vehicle speed sensor, but information cones from the abs sensor. Is this true?

each wheel has a sensor and ring.. the rings are on the CV joint closest to the wheel, and the sensors are usually on the back side of the hub or knuckle.. the sensor sends wheel speed to the abs module.. what codes are you getting?

Just changed mine. Took 20 minutes each. Hope your ABS isn't going bad. 150.00 repair with Matt at CheapABS.com fast turn around as well.

This is true. You need to check that the speed sensor is the problem and not just coming from the ABS module instead. Usually will be a fault code that comes and goes randomly until it faults completely in the module.

Is the ABS module difficult to remove on this car, or are there any guides on doing it without having to remove the entire ABS unit.

You can change the speed sensor fairly easily. Took me probably 30-45 min when I did mine on my old B5 A4.

the module isn't that hard to remove, and you can do it with out having to disconnect the break lines.. there's a diy on audizine on how to remove it.. if your mechanical, should take you about 45 min to an hour to remove it.. its 6 screws and the module will come off. 4 you can get from under rhe hood, and 2 from the fenderwell, just make sure you cover the rest of the unit after you separate the module from it.
