    Advice on Oil Dipstick

As many others before me, I have the cracked and failing dipstick issues. My dipstick up at the top of the orange piece is cracked and coming apart. Do I just replace that orange funnel, will the dipstick tube be bad and need replaced too, and should I change out the actual dipstick while I am at it? I looked on ECSTuning and see a lot of different options, brands, and prices. There is also a full kit to use as well. Should I just get the whole kit and do it all or can I save money by getting one of the cheaper funnels/not all the parts in that kit?

    Quick link for the lazy

It's safe to say that most of...if not all those vw/audi 1.8t's from 2001 to 2005 have had that issue. I'd say replace the orange funnel and save some money.

I would replace the whole thing. It's quite cheap to buy the whole unit. Also, a word of advice, do it sooner rather then later. The longer you leave it on there the more of those tiny orange pieces fall into your oil pan and eventually get sucked up into your oil pickup tube. This happened to my 2003 a4 and after replacing the tube my oil pressure light came on. I drained the oil and was out in the driveway with a skinny flat blade breaking up the big chunks of orange dipstick tube, in order to get them to fall out of the oil drain hole.

I read and am going to try to use the aquarium brush trick. Shoving it down the tube so as you break and remove the funnel pieces cant fall into the oil pan.
