    Homelink unsuccessful

Im on my bajillionth Audi now and just brought home a new A4. This is my first Audi where I cant get my homelink programmed. I was literally sitting in the car for almost a half hour watching my garage door go up and down each time I tried to program it. This is also the first one that Ive ever seen that you didnt point the remote at the front end of the car. Makes no sense to me to point it at the mirror.

    Anyone get this working?

I don't exactly know how, but I got it to work with my garage. I used my remote a few times and also the learn button on the garage and eventually the home link button in my car worked

My Audi is the first car where I didn't point the remote at the mirror. In most other cars that's where the Homelink antenna is.

The MMI will tell you to point it at the mirror. I had trouble with mine as well. I had another person sit in the car pushing the button at the same time i hit thr learn button and then hit thr garage door opener button. It was wild. Not entirely which combination worked but eventually it just statrted working. Very strange, indeed. But rest assured. It WILL work. Just gotta mess with it. Press buttons at different times ajd in different orders. Never refuse to allow it to sync. I still don't know what the hell that means but I'm sure telling it no a few times didn't help the fight.

    Good luck!

So I dont know what I did, and unfortunately I dont think I can replicate it, but I did end up getting it to work. I switched batteries in remotes, I did button pushing on the remote and garage door itself. I did so many button pushes that I thought I was going to execute a "Fatality".

The new garage doors use the rolling codes, so it can take awhile to program it. The problem most people run into (that they don't know about) is some openers exit "learn mode" after a given period so it won't sync up even if you hit the right code.

Just to give some background, I had a 10 S4, 13 S6, 14 S6, (another)14 S6, and a 16 S6 before this 17 A4. All of those previous Audi's synced on first try with just the remote. Theres something wonky with the new homelink system.

    lol.

My new garage opener remotes programmed easily but it constantly loses the code after a few days. The troubleshooting with Homelink determined it's faulty. They had me try all three buttons individually with both remotes. I also used fresh batteries.

Seems to be hit and miss. I have three garage doors to program.....parents and sister's worked no problem....figures, my own home garage door opener will not program. I've tried a dozen times.

I have a chamberlain 3/4HP door opener and I noticed that the keyfob remote would not work when I tried to program the car so I dug around and found the other remote, the old style box one that clips on the sunvisor and tried it and like magic it worked, garge door opener now linked to the car....

I have a three-quarter horsepower Chamberlain about 10 years, has purple program button. I can program it to my Homelink. The problem is that sometimes works sometimes it doesn't. 3 out of 5 times works first push. 1 out of 5 times I have to push the button two or three times. 1 out of 5 times it just does not work I could press it 20 times and nothing. When it just doesn't want to work I have to grab the remote that I keep in the glove box which is frustrating and it defeats the purpose. The purpose is not only a nice clean look but more importantly security. you have to have the car key to open the garage door, not just break into the car to get the opener. Went to the Audi dealer to talk to the service department and they said that was just like that and it's not that good of a system, it's just the way it is. Yet another frustrating feature that I purchase a car for that didn't work.

I haven't had an Audi yet with consistently working homelink. I didn't buy the Audi because it makes a good garage door opener though.

Th3e dealer recently changed my Homelink system under warranty. I was always able to program but it would randomly stop working days later. No problems since they replaced it. They also updated the "ECM" software.
