    Dumb Question: Cat Delete Options

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm sure this topic has been covered to death. And what's more, I'm sure there is a good reason why people don't talk about this more, but...

Just received my resonated downpipes from AWE and I can't wait to get them installed. But since I'm going to be doing the downpipes, I'm wondering if should be doing something with my cats while I'm at it?

Wondering people's opinions/results on high flow cats / test pipes / other cat delete options?

I know it's supposed to be a decent pain in the dick to install. But aside from that. Are there noticeable performance benefits? Especially with better downpipes?

    Thanks in advance.

The only vendor that showed evidence of gains was eurocode with their stage 3. Other than that its been a ton of back and forth about if they are worth it.

My 2cents, if you look at the fastest b8s4s right now, they are all catted still.

Have also heard, but not confirmed, that no cat " test pipes" could pose a challenge in some places with passing emissions testing.

No power gains from the catless DP's or EC headers (at least on a stage 2 car). You'd have to consider if the cost of DP/header+labor is worth the sound...

Buddy just went with JHM's metal cat DP's. $850 for the set. He had a blown cat on the passenger side. I'm thinking he will need 02 spacers to pass emissions.

While it is somewhat disappointing news, it's good info. And frankly, it's what I kind of expected the deal to be. If it was worth it, more people here would be doing it.

I don't care about emissions. Passed those a few months back. Good for 2 years. Car will probably be gone by then anyway. But if it's not worth the time to install. Or money for parts. May as well leave them.

And as cool as headers would be. Definitely not pulling the engine. Or paying to have it pulled. Ha!

Oh well. More money for the slush fund when APR releases...

APR has mentioned their new offering runs best without cats.

Should note that it's not easy to replace the cats it's a 7-10 hour job apparently

That is quite the project. But if the performance gains are there...

Not sure if they're there for the cost, I just bought the JHM hi flow cats to replace my OEM ones... can give feedback on those in a few weeks

I understand that one of the guys (Jones) has the eurocode headers on his S4 and there is a guy from China who has upgraded headers on his 3.0 A5, from memory both have top 1/4 mile times around 11.5 but I don't believe that the test pipes alone have too much of an impact

That's good to know. Looking forward to hearing your review of the high flow cats.
