Time to own the winter - Nokian Hak 8s

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just picked up these bad boys, ive ran the Hak 7s for the last 6 winters and could honestly get another season out of them but with all the driving I got planned this winter new rubber was a smart move.

I see lots of folks asking what I should buy for winter tires, in my experience there is no other winter tire out there that compares to these for acceleration/braking grip, lateral grip, wear and so on. You gotta pay for them but they are worth it and they look mean lol

What are you guys running for winters?

running the exact same. studded hakka 8.

I have the 7 last year, still perefectly fine, over 8mm of thread, however, they were not made for the s4, so i decided to get the ''good size'' and ended up buying new hakka 8.

If they are 5-10% better than the hakka7 studded, it will be even more fun than last year lol!

I'm running R2s, but I'm not satisfied with grip in the snow. Considering moving to blizzaks

don't think I can in NYC either and its hard to think about winter when it's 91° but I'm leaving the stock all season until I see how they perform

We don't get much snow in Oregon so I prefer to not use studded tires.

I am running the OEM winter package from an S7 with ContiWinterContact™ TS 830 P's.

I think I might pick up some spacers this year to get better fitment on the wheels.

funny... I just got used hakka 8 studded as well (225/45R18). I say used, but they are 11/32... almost new... First time with studded and first time with Hakka. Last winter tires were 245/40R18 Blizzak WS-60. They were ok, but too large for winter as they were floating over everything.

I'm in the uk and got some Michelin PA3's ready to go on oct/nov.

We don't get much snow here (5 days a year max) but do get a lot of cold and wet weather.

Has anyone got experience with PA3's?

Hakka R2s, 225/45-18. Got me through some very deep mornings last year. Snow blowing over the hood on the way to the mountain will get you stoked!

Only complaint is they get a little loose >90mph (in Mexico).

Looks good but I can't imagine studs are good for lateral grip unless you are on snow. Around here and where I drive winter wise we either have 6"+ snowfalls that leave snow on the roads or we get 1-2" one that barely do anything to the roads. Usually more salt and sand on the roads than snow. Thus I need to grip and performance the Blizzak LM-32's offer.

Last time I used studs was in the mid 80's in the snowbelt of northern Ohio.

Hakka R2 here, I like them better than the Blizzaks I have run in the past. Only complaint is like Doug97gxe mentioned, not the best speed rating. If I were going with studs it would definitely be the Hakka 8's.

I've got Blizzak's currently - and I'm thinking I may upgrade to R2's for this winter. I could probably get a couple more seasons out of the Blizzak's but I'd prefer to get something fresh this year I think.

Shouldn't you be running 245/40 18's? a 45 is a bit too much sidewall IMO.

sidewall is identical.... 245 40 means sidewall is 40% of 245mm, so 98mm of sidewall. 225 45 is 45% of 225mm, so 101,25 mm, difference of 3mm of sidewall. The advantage is 225 mm or thread vs 245 mm of thread, meaning the tire will cut thought snow and slush more easily... add the fact that 3850lbs of the car weight will push down on a small footprint, more pressure means more traction on winter conditions.

    Compared to 255 35 r19 oem size, 225 45 18 is actually 0,21% smaller than oem size, while 245 40 18 is 1,19% smaller.

I read 95 is the minimum load rating for b8 s4, 225 hakka 8 are 95T XL, so should be fine

I've been running the Nokian WRG3's on my allroad in winter for the past few years, if you live in a climate where it gets cold and snows but drving on snow-covered roads isn't an everyday thng (like many of us) I recommend them highly. They call them "All Weather" tires rather than "All season" because they are cold-weather biased (softer compound etc.) and they are excellent tires. I have the R2's on my S4 in winter but honestly I like the WRG3's more overall and will get a set for the S4 when I can justify it, the R2's are still too new to toss.

Yup 95t xl with 190km/h speed rating. The 225 is the way to go for anyone dealing with lots of snow, bring on snowboarding season! Need to replace a few pieces of my vinyl wrap... 90,000km on it now with the shit kicking i give it daily there is a rough spots in the front. Then ill be fully ready for winter.

Had a set of WRG2s that wore down very fast, but maybe they improved the compound.
