    ceramic coating?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys,

Im about to apply a ceramic coating to the whole car and wanted to ask You guys if You have some experience with it? I wanted modesta first, as it looks like the highest level, but its not that easy to get to it here, so my friend is a detailer and he recomended pomponazzi. Does anyone knows the quality of it? there is not much on internet about it, but from what Ive been able to find, it looks really well :)

    thanks for any input!

Hey man. I used opti coat pro+. It came out good. Been only a few months. It was the only offering by the most local and trusted detailer in my area. I would have liked more options to pursue though. Paid 1500 including opti glass. It was a 2 day process.

do a search both in this forum and the Detailing forum. Lots of feedback on the different coating options out there and experiences with them.

i have ceramic pro on my s6 and we just did opti-coat pro+ on my wife's tesla.
i like the OC better than the ceramic pro, could be because of the applicator; he spent a lot of time prepping the car/paint correction/polishing before he applied the coating. that's the most important part.

with OC you won't be able to wax it as wax will just slide off, the tesla is black and in combination with kenotek QD and frequent california duster-ing, i am able to keep the black shiny between washes

I had my S6 done with ceramic pro 9h. Dust and dirt just slides right off the paint now. I can go twice as long without a wash now as compared to my old S4.

I drove about 1000km since the last wash, and people were still complimenting how clean the car looked. Fortunately, there was no rain during this time, but everything else seems to just fall off the paint (including dust).

You have multiple options here . I have personally used Klasse products. Mainly because I like doing such things to the car and cannot stomach paying 1 or2 grand for it although the products those guys use are like Gtechniq, Opticoat and such which require proper technique and well trained folks. To me one coat of Klasse All in One followed by 3 coats of Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze work great. Klasse is super easy to work with- Good with Hand application or DA Polisher application. I am going to redo it again though now. Just adding a layer of chemical guys black light and then doing the sealant glaze again. Don't need to but still doing it!

The prep is the most important step. You could put a $300 product over poorly prepped paint and it look bad or a cheap wax over well prepared paint so t it look great. I use Gtechnic Crystal C1 and EXO v2 because of ease of application. It was a 2 day session applying it but it cost me under $300 in all to do the whole car inside and out with all Gtechnic products and still have enough left over to do another car.

if the paint was in poor condition then def get a good detailer to sort the paint with correction before doing anything. If it's a new car then just get the paint cleaned, de contaminated and products applied and save your self $1500+.

I'm having a full paint correction done and Cquartz ceramic nano coating applied tomorrow, well it's going to take 2 days but I will post pictures when it's all done. And I'll let you know what I think of the Cquartz, I have heard good things about it though.

    Cheers

Anyone have ceramic coating and drive daily with frequent rain? Just moved from NY to TX and my S4 hasn't been cleaned in a while. Everyday rain leaves spots all over. I'm wondering how ceramic would hold up to the frequent raining here

You're in good hands here. I did ceramic pro 9h as well and I'm loving it! Seems like there are many options and they all make the same point - prep, prep, prep. The applicator is key too. Make sure the person loves cars and is crazy meticulous! It's a two day process to apply, then another day to cure. But worth it. Good luck!

I am close to Dallas. Mentioned above that I have the acrylic coating - Klasse. I know all acrylic and ceramic coatings hold up great in rain here. I just hand wash the car and dont see any darn spots. I dont think you should be worried. It will look like water spots, but as soon as you handwash it even lightly, the car will be like it never got dirty. Same goes with the bird droppings on these coats- pour some water to soften it, spray some soap water or detailing spray, wipe it off, leaves a little mark. But as soon as you do a proper wash, nothing!!

thanks guys for all the replies :) .. yes, the guy said it will take 2 days to prep as the paint is in very good condition, with minimal scratches. He works in one of the best detailing shops around here, even travels to Dubai to detail some of their cars :) so I totally trust him. The only thing is that he has access to pomponazzi only these days, so no modesta or opticoat, but said this pomponazzi is also top class so Im very excited, but also afraid that I have too high expectations of it. Does it also prevent scratches from small rocks and parking slots (door to door bumbs)?
