Installing AWE Touring Used Exhaust this weekend

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I own a 2013 S4 with a DSG and I bought a used AWE Touring exhaust. I am planning on doing the install this weekend but would appreciate any advice or tips.

I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, I've done the front and rear brakes and some suspension components before but never done an exhaust.

I'd appreciate any tips or suggestions as I'm not sure what to expect. I've read the install guide and it seems pretty straight forward.

    Thanks
    Kevin

I'm curious too. Just the exhaust, no downpipes right?

If just doing the cat-back it's apiece of cake really. It's all one piece so just try to have a helping hand cause it's heavy once it drops. Then you'll need someplace to store it. For the downpipes there's one nut that's hard to get to, AWE offers a special tool or just get a crows foot

Just the exhaust, I figure I'll try it without the downpipes and if the drone gets too bad then I can get them later

If you can under there a day before and spray the clamps with PB Blaster or the likes it'll help a lot

I think you'll need exhaust paste which you may not have since it's used. A healthy application of the stuff to seal joints is necessary.

I did not notice much difference going from stock to AWE downpipes in terms of drone. You should consider tack welding it in place once it has settled in and you like the alignment. All those slip joints will... slip.

I would recommend having new clamps on hand. Mine were rusted to shit and had to be replaced. They're cheap as hell and might save yourself a good headache.

You are not going to have fun. I don't recommend the paste on install. Get it installed and aligned correctly, drive it for a week or so, make sure you still like the alignment and then carefully separate each joint to add the paste.
All clamps loose its just a pain in the ass to assemble. I got frustrated and I used to be an auto tech.

Yeah, no need for the paste. My tube from AWE is still new. Never even thought about opening it up.

I would say it is an easy job myself, having changed to a AWE track exhaust in the driveway on jackstands. Use the PB Blaster on the rubber mounts to aid sliding the exhaust hangers out, spin a few wrenches, align and enjoy.

It's done!! The exhaust sounds great!!

The only issue is that I can't get the hanger clamps on, I'm going to try soaking them in penetrating oil but I'd that doesn't work, I'll have to see if AWE sells them by themselves.
