DSG Completely cuts power from 1st to 2nd

My 2012 S4 has had some quirky behavior from the transmission, most of which I have chalked up to the nature of the dual clutch itself. However, this is one I can't seem to find the answer for. Sometimes when I accelerate hard while in automatic mode (it may have happened in manual mode too) in first gear, the car will hit its shift point (6800-7000) rpm and completely cut out all power. At first, I thought the problem may have been attributed to traction control kicking in and cutting the power out but after a few times of having it happen, I can never recall seeing the traction control light flash at all. It is the oddest sensation because when the power cuts, it feels like engine braking from a downshift into a high rpm, similar to what a manual would produce. I don't feel like this is normal behavior from the DSG because I have not been able to find a forum that accurately describes what is happening to me.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what is the likely cause and should I be concerned about it?

    Thanks!

Actually sounds exactly like what my S5 3.0T did stock. I didn't bother me,but I did notice the sensation you speak of. When I did the Stage 2 Upgrades though, all of that goes away. Idk if it's an ECU thing or what, but when they tune it...they make it so much better.

That's strange. It doesn't bother me too much because it doesn't happen THAT often. I am patiently waiting for my CPO warranty to expire before I go ahead and tune

If you still have warranty, at least take it in for evaluation and make sure it's nothing else. If all is well, then you'll be amazed once you tune =)

You mention traction control. Does it happen with traction control turned off (fully off?

It has happened once before with traction control completely off. I don't normally have it shut off when it happens though.

Mine does it from time to time (1-2 times a year) since new. I'm at 60000 miles without any issue on the transmission. I had the feeling that the transmission could not shift fast enough for a reason and gets on the limiter or above (I've seen 7800 rpm once) something happens and it cuts the gas until it can change gear smoothly again... weird stuff.

7800 rpm..... Have you checked your codes for an over-rev code?

How can I check that ? VCDS ?
Sometimes I have a feeling the displayed RPM is not actually connected to the car but controlled by software... I've seen multiple instance where the RPM showed is not the rpm of the engine (ex: the car downshift to 1 and is clearly audible, but the rpm is shown as if I was in second gear... the DIS gear reading is also not showing the 1st gear, displaying 2 all the time).

VCDS, Carista, any generic cheap OBD-2 port code reader.

That's strange. I bought the car with 38,000 on it and this has happened probably 8-10 times since I picked it up a year and a half ago.

129k miles but other than this issue runs very strong.

I have exactly the same issue. 1-2 shift almost every time. Car did this in pure stock form and also does it after the tune. (Unitronic Stg2+)
No codes. I am very interested in tracking this down. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
More pronounced when the weather is not extremely hot. The car gets to the shift point (or close) and power is lost, noses over, then shifts and goes.

It's a strange and embarrassing issue to have, especially if you're trying to show it off . I'm thinking about calling my local dealership to see if it's worth bringing it in to have it looked at. The problem I'm having is that I cannot get it to replicate it all the time. It almost seems like it's a fuel cut because I used to have a similar issue when going around a corner in my Jeep Cherokee.

Yes it is. Fortunately or Unfortunately I can reproduce it easily. My guy Jonathan at VDubaholics is going to log it and attempt to find the root cause. Stay tuned.

So I've been doing a lot of research on the subject and a lot of what this points to is being an issue with the mechatronic unit. Does anyone else have an opinion on it?
