Cam Chain Adjuster damage, Intake cam ok?

Hello, I picked up a 2006 Audi A4 124,000 miles that needs engine work, I'm not sure if I want to replace with a junk yard engine or fix this one. They told me it might need a new intake camshaft because of the cam follower failing. It started right up but ran really bad after it idled down, Seemed to run alight when on high idle. Instead of messing with it I started tearing it apart to inspect the intake cam. After removing the fuel pump I noticed the top part was half worn from the cam lobe. Went to remove the follower expecting it to be shot, I was wrong it was brand new they must of put a new one in after taking it apart. Fast forward to after the cam chain and valve cover removed. I was expecting to find a early version one piece cam that's shot, I was wrong again. It had a revision B two piece cam in it already must of been replaced at some time(Also looks like newer tensioner). But when I took it apart I never found any piece of the previous follower but I found that the Cam Chain Adjuster had bad groves in it.
Could the Cam Chain Adjuster being damaged cause it not to run right?
Can I reuse this Cam Chain Adjuster?
I don't think the intake lobe for the fuel pump is that bad? I feel like it should still work but I understand cause quicker wear to the follower
Maybe just the fuel pump is bad?
Maybe its not even related to this at all I didn't pull no codes or anything before I took it apart and disconnect battery, stupid me.
Just looking for some Ideas, I'm going to check compression on all cylinders tomorrow.

    Good News:

The cam lobes look fine to me. How do they feel? If the follower failed then the fuel pump drags right on it and starts to roughen the surface causing very rapid cam follower wear and failure.
If the HPFP is visibly worn, you should replace it or replace the internals of it (HPFP kits from IE, JHM etc.)
The chain tensioner looks brand spanking new and was probably replace when the follower failed (intake cam may have been replaced as well?)

    Bad News:

The camshaft adjuster looks tore up! Probably a result of the failed follower bits spinning and grinding against the rear timing cover. That's what they do when in big pieces. Once ground up like a conical coffee bean grinder, guess where all those bits go? Yup down through the rest of the engine.
Depending on your comfort level, you should at least pull the engine and give a good flush, clean the sump, check the oil pick up tube etc etc. Open up the adjuster and make sure no debris is within, it is very precise and small pieces can cause malfunction and hinder the variable cam timing function. Possibly remove the hard girdle to inspect the camshaft journals. Change the timing belt and associated components while you are there.

Simplest reason for poor idle is bad PCV which causes a vacuum leak at and very poor idle so you should check that as well. Then again, if the fuel pump is shortened then it is not pumping completely and not supplying enough fuel pressure, but I wouldn't think that symptom would be at idle.
