I have an '09 Prestige, which I believe is 3G low MMI that I'd like to get set up with streaming audio. Normally I'd just install a Bluetooth receiver like a Tune2air and be done with it, but I already have the 30 pin to Lightning adapter, along with a dedicated 5th gen iPod touch in the car. I've found some apps (AirFloat and AirServer) that claim to make your existing iPod work like an AirPlay receiver without jailbreaking it. That got me thinking, what about just installing AirFloat on the iPod already in the car? Has anybody tried this? I assume I'd have to turn on the app every time, to get it to connect (which is okay because it's mostly for my wife to use when she goes on longer trips and borrows my car). But I wonder if I would even get any output from the iPod -- does the MMI stream audio from other iPod apps (like Pandora) when connected via Lightning connector? The other possible hitch is whether AirFloat can be configured to work peer to peer instead of via an existing wifi network, but maybe there is another app that can. Thoughts?
