    Chipwerkes @ Significant Elevation

I may be taking crazy pills..

But if I'm thinking about this correctly - the Chipwerke/piggy concept will not be nearly (at all?) effective at significant elevation like Denver (or higher). The ECU is essentially replicating the CW concept due to elevation - ensuring that no boost is bled. I tried to do some research and the only few things I found agreed with this concept but nothing concrete.

The time that a chipwerke/piggy would be effective at elevation would be in conjunction with a SC Pulley where we're actually spinning the blower faster (requiring Stage 2 "map" in the CW/piggy) where we keep the bypass closed..

    Right? Or....

That's what I've gathered, and also there same reason I haven't tried one.

They have a 30-day Money Back Guarantee. If you are on the fence just give it a shot.

CW or a tune isn't going to make much difference honestly (or at least be nearly as effective). At elevation in an attempt to reach requested boost your bypass is staying closed when a sea level bypass is opening up. Sure, the tunes are optimizing fueling and spark but the bulk of the power (stage 1 at least) is from keeping the bypass closed.

While I agree somewhat, there IS a lot more to tuning than boost. I had a REVO stage 2 file I could spike 25psi with that was slower/less powerful than JHM's stage 1 file making only 20 psi peak. (B72.0t)

My thinking as well, here in Calgary we are around 3000' and mixed with our lovely selection of gas the CW mod would give more headaches than anything. Read a few posts and comments from CW that there is little to no ability to play with the settings on the unit, without having shifting issues or something.

I've been running the S for about a year and it has been fine. No hard CELs even with the drastic weather changes we can get especially in winter, but do have to clear a soft code for under boost before taking the car into the stealership for maintenance. Murat (he's a great guy) just flashed me to Stage 2 and we will see how things are this winter, but I suspect it'll be uneventful.

CW stage 1 power gains at this elevation with the S are pleasant. You can definitely feel it seat of the pants, but don't expect it to blow your mind away. As mentioned by others, after getting used to the extra power, removal of the unit makes it very apparent that it definitely adds HP.

As far as shift issues, I can't comment on that as mine is a 6MT so no issues here, but I've read using less aggressive settings is supposed help with DSG shift issues. The only thing I do notice is that the throttle is more sensitive than without the device, but that's not really a big deal.
