Dinan now developing exhaust & possibly other parts for Audis

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I thought I would share this with everyone.
It looks like Dinan is expanding to other euro car markets, not just BMW anymore.

I was Dinan today for initial exhaust development for my S4.
I believe they are starting with exhaust systems for the A3, A4, S3, S4 and then expanding to other models.

Smart move on their part. Wonder if they will try and be a "stasis" replacement offering warranty.

Get ready to pay over $1k for an intake and probably around $2k for just mufflers. And if the justification for the price is their "warranty" be sure to read the small print.

I would bet if they are coming into this market they have been doing their homework and will be right in line price wise with the main guys in our space!.

^ dont count on it. Dinan has never been in line with other peoples pricing, even when the market has been producing good but cheap products. I have no doubt in my mind they will be making good quality exhaust systems, but i just dont think they will be worth the money. AWE right now seems to be the best sounding/priced system on the market and will be the biggest competition.

fair assumption and in many ways I agree.. However, pretty recently their systems for the M2, M3/4 are very competitive to the market.. in fact much less in many respects as are their intakes. That new Dinantronic Sport module they released is less than everything else I had seen and with Bluetooth. fingers crossed and we shall see

i haven't followed dinan for a few years since i got rid of my 335 so i wasn't aware they have adjusted their pricing, i just assumed (which i should never do) that they would still be how they always were lol. Either way, i'll be keeping an eye out to see more of what they offer.

I got the car back last Friday after being at Dinan for a whole week. They didn't have enough time to put together a finished exhaust but they are really close. Will have to bring the car back in a couple of weeks for them to finish it off. Apparently what they thought was going to work ended up being having the worst outcome lol. It was cool seeing all the different prototype options they had for all the different Audis.

I hate to be negative but Dinan doesn't move me much at all, they should have formed a subsidiary and sold under a different name perhaps. However it is cool that you are able to drop your car off while they develop an exhaust. Which they're going to give to you for free right?

Well they did get bought out by a larger company. Now they want to expand to all the Euro markets. For Audi they want to start out with exhaust and then expand to tunes and other stuff. Its always good to have other options. Trust me I love the AWE exhaust, so it will be interesting to see how this one sounds.
Yes they are pretty cool at Dinan, they even loaned me there 340i shop car.
That's what I'm hoping and what I have heard from other people that have been involved in part development.

they were bought several years ago by Flowmaster, B&M and Hurst. Certainly all well respected companies in their own right so not fly by night outfits. I think the already have some piggy back type tuners getting ready to launch for our cars. I see they released one for Mercedes and Fiat is listed on the site now. AWE makes great stuff and my experiences with them and APR have all been positive. Dinan however is pretty stout on the BMW side , especially at the dealership level so personally I think its great they are moving into other applications and becoming more diverse. Perhaps maybe they will even offer their warranty on some of the audi products like they do with the BMW stuff 4yr/50k mile matching new car warranty. That would be cool. just a thought, who knows.

When I was in there they were working on an exhaust and tune for a 911. Seems like they are busy doing a lot of R&D with all Euro brands.
The guy that I have been working did say that they do plan to offer something like the warranty they offer for BMW or similar for VW/Audi.

The drone is very minimal at freeway speeds. You can carry normal conservations without having to yell.

This actually sounds really good! BUT Why does DINAN fall so flat when it comes to aesthetics?..... The tips look like cambell soup cans! When they compared to all the other brands, what were they thinking? " let's compete with these established audi aftermarket brands, make a great sounding exhaust but the cheapest and ugliest tips"

I've been on the hunt for a bmw z3 m coupe for years and many come with DINAN upgrades, you should see how shitty the DINAN exhaust looks compared to oem...... Oem are dual quad tips, dinan are dual single tips that point down to the ground, everytime I see one, I think the first mod I would do is change the tips....... This then puts their whole philosophy of tuning in question...... If their eye for detail or forethought of what looks good is a reflection of their approach to tuning, I wouldn't touch their products as I don't want a half ass product that falls so short of others in the market......esp at an inflated price point.......

I actually like the style of those tips. the flat black with the laser engraved logo looks nice on your car and its scheme. Sounds bad a*%!~. I would guess if they are coming out with more and more exhaust kits for various euro applications they will have other tip options as well. I would also guess they have done some homework on the other kits on the market pricing wise, and will probably be in the ballpark and not $500 higher or whatever. I've looked at a lot of their pricing recently on various forums and maky BMW enthusiasts have commented that their pricing over the last year or so is much more in line with the market. Id give them the benefit of the doubt.

That doesn't sound good at all. Is there drone at normal city driving? Where is the drone in the rev range?

I want stock levels of drone (i.e. none), better tone, a bit louder and not have to sell a kidney to get it. Is that asking too much? Perhaps it is.

Sounds great by the way. Too bad about the drone.

yeah he is basically saying drone IS NOT an issue. You put an exhaust on the car there is more sound, those who don't engineer it properly suffer with drone issues. Those who do come out with a kit with very minor drone sound and one that doesn't affect 99% of people.. I.E. their wives or girlfriends wont complain in the car. That's the idea and this is what he is saying sounds like. Its a good sounding kit and nobody would complain!!. That's the ticket

I want stock levels of drone (i.e. none), better tone, a bit louder and not have to sell a kidney to get it. Is that asking too much? Perhaps it is.

Sounds great by the way. Too bad about the drone.

Agree with subzero05. I know from the beginning Dinan told me their goal was to create something that sounded great and had very minimal drone and I believe that they accomplished that imo. Drone is such a subjective topic because everyone's perspective will be different. I think that for exhausts you have to hear it in person and ride in the car to really determine if you will like it or not, videos do not do it justice. For this system, drone seems to be above 2200 rpm. On the freeway in 6th gear it does get a little loud but in 7th gear its pretty much non existent. In the city in sport mode it will be a little louder since the tranny keeps the revs a little higher but in D there isn't much drone (again my opinion). I still haven't pulled the soundaktor fuse either so I don't know if that will minimize the drone even further.

Btw my wife had no complain of the system.
