Question Tried retro fitting puddle lights, now drivers door electrics wont work

Hi i was about to attempt to retro fit puddle lights to my b7 a4 which seemed quite a simple job.

A few days before i was going to do it i took all the door apart etc, and un-plugged the 32 pin connector block and put it back in (i did this about 3 times in total) just to have a look to see if i could do it by myself. I then put it all back together and everything worked fine as it should.

Then come to the day when all the parts i need finally arrive(1week later), i took the door apart etc, took out the 32 pin connector block and then took out the brown earth pin from number 13(i think i cant remember exactly off the top of my head i just know it was on the end of a row of 4 wires that were in the block on the 1-16 side.) Then i realised i didn't have enough time so i put it back in the slot which im 80% sure i took it out of (im only saying that as its not working at the moment and i presume its to do with me screwing with that pin) put all the door back together etc and now none of the electrics will work. So the door unlock/lock button wont work mirror controls and windows controls. The door lock switch is illuminated as it should be when my lights are on but just doesn't work and its the same for mirror/window controls but for some reason they are a lot more dimmer than they should be for some reason.

So basically what im asking is does anyone know exactly which slot the brown pin should be in? if it helps the part number for the wiring loom on my door is 8E1971035DF. Or what could be causing the problem providing ive got the brown earth wire in the correct slot.

Also just to note the central locking etc on the key fob unlocks my door and locks it still and the speaker is still working if that helps.

Should i just call it a loss and order a new loom from ebay?

If you're unsure if you put the pin back in the correct spot then I would find the wiring diagram for the door and verify. Sounds like you possibly have a bad ground or maybe you didn't push the pin in all the way. If it was working properly beforehand then there's no reason to order a whole new door harness.

Can you not compare the loom on the drivers side to the passengers side? I would imagine they are almost identical, especially with regards at least to the power/ground wires.

Sounds good. But Audi's wiring diagrams do not show entire plugs the way a lot of diagrams do. Hard to explain, but finding what he needs in a wiring diagram is much harder than just looking at the other door.

I agree, getting a new harness would be a useless idea, I agree with mtroxel, these elictrical diagrams are the vaguest worst ones I have ever seen for a car. Its pretty much a picture that they just wrote "Ya, there's some wires, and they go some places, power some things, lots of colors too" and that's what you get lol. When I get home from work I'll take a look through the FSM and see if there is anything useful, I may be able to find the connector, don't know whether it will have any color coding or not, or says what any of it does. But it'll have a picture of the connector and some wires! lol

Also, was the battery disconnected during this work? These electronics are very sensitive...
