    V6T Debage Issue

Pardon the cross post from my thread in the B8 Forum. Didn't realize AZ had a detailing section, and this is definitely a better spot for this thread.

Anyone see this before when debadging their V6T in prep for the supercharged badges? No matter what I do (at home ) the outline is there. It's baked or etched right into the clear coat. Going to have to have a detailer give it a deep Compound or wet sand it out. One side was a breeze and the other side had hard almost like epoxy or clear coat outlines. Maybe factory pressed on before Clear coat cured? Bought the car brand new in Feb 2015. Not only can you see it (at certain angles) but you can feel it when u run your hand over it. I have tried a Meguires rubbing compound by hand, along with a wet magic eraser (which is around a 3000-5000 grit sand paper) but its much to hard to get at by hand. Went very light with the magic eraser and only for a few seconds in a corner, as I was worried to mess it up.

So a big thanks to King's mobile auto detailing in mahopac NY for coming by my house tonight and having a look at it. It was very bad he said. Etched fully through the clear coat. He had to go down to 1000 grit paper for the wet sand to get it 95% out. He didn't want to go further down given how much CC needed to be removed to get it to where it was. After a nice compound, polish and wax it Looks 100 times better. You can't see it at all unless u really look for it at certain angles and in certain lighting. The most pronounced part is at the corner of the V which will be completely covered by the red portion of the supercharged badge.

What a head ache. How it got that way I don't know. And may never. Here are a few pics in different lighting.

Glad to see from the other thread you got this resolved. Did the detailer measure the thickness before and after he sanded and compare it to the surrounding areas? Just good info to have. Put a nice coating on the car and/or keep that area well protected and you'll be fine.

    Congrats.

Yep - borrow a PTG and check all the vehicle panels

You can also check if a panel has been re-sprayed at the edges: panel that has not been repainted will, as a rule, feel as smooth on its' edges as it does on the surface - a rough edge you can tell is from where the masking tape was...again this edge should feel smooth.

Look for sloppy wax job, or it could also be from polishing compound in the gaps between panels - or spotting just under the hood (if that was a re-sprayed area.

Some not all cars will have stickers on all removable body panels (As well as other components of the car) that have the car's VIN on them - They are on security paper and are tamper-proof - if these have been removed and re-applied or just been completely removed!

Look at the bolts which hold the door hinges and fender bolts to the frame of the car - if there is chipping / bad over spray / indicators of a painted panel

Alignment of the panels. Do they seem misaligned?

Over spray on areas like the exhaust - trim - headlights - etc...cant see it - place your hand in a sandwich baggie now feel across those ares (this is a great way to feel the finish of your vehicle for paint imperfections - road grim build up - over spray - environmental fall out of you vehicle paint/finish.

Now drive and enjoy that ride

Great detail. I am meticulous when it comes to analyzing every detail. I haven't checked for the VIN on the stickers, but everything else u mentioned I've done. Other than this badge issue; nothing would lead me to believe repaint. Edges are silk, finish looks identical , bolts are fresh etc. again, as I mentioned in my Other thread , the car was purchased brand new at New Country Audi in Greenwich CT

I wish the leaves were changing already. I love fall. Still green as can be up here in the northeast. Taking a trip to PA in the Pocono mountains with friends tomorrow for a bachelor party. Not sure I'm going to take the S4 though :)

Good to hear that the problem was fixed.

The paint could have been wet when the badges went on at the factory and just cured that way I doubt the car was resprayed, we have seen this before.
