    DIY Battery replacement B7 A4

Maybe this topic is simplistic, or has been asked and answered, but I felt left down by the INTERNET on this topic that should have been straight forward and easy. All I needed was a replacement battery for my 2007 A4. I was surprised how little info I could find online. I found some bad Youtube videos and very few threads that even touched on this. I'll get right to it. The replacement battery you want is an AGM battery, and I went with this one from Batteries and Bulbs https://www.batteriesplus.com/batter...ional/sli49agm I got an extension 6 mm hex bit for a 3/4 ratchet at Lowes for about $7.00 dollars that allowed me to remove the battery. 10mm wrench took care of the rest. I have the S-line model and DID NOT remove the sway bar to remove the battery. Warning: The battery is heavy and takes a little muscle to lift out of its home. Having done it, I could redo this job in less than 15 minutes. Not hard, just need the right info to begin.

There was some bad info on the forums. I went to Costco and looked at the recommended battery, and it was just wrong. Too small and not AGM. Walmart does have an AGM battery, but I did not want to wait to receive an internet order. Optima does not make the right size battery, and the ones on Amazon appear to be non-warrantied, so buyer beware. Sorry I don't have photos or a better write up on my job. I'm quite pleased with the battery I got, and it includes a four year warranty.

I’ve seen a couple threads on battery replacement, the biggest PITA is getting the hold down bolt in after reinstalling the new battery. and yes, my back was rekt after lifting that sucker out.

I got my replacement from O’Reilly for $190ish and got a $30 credit for the core. fit just fine and 0 issues in 3 months so

You dorks you just bought an over sized battery you didn't need. If you would have went to Audi the batt would have only cost about $100.00. The original batt has low cold cranking amps b/c it's only has to turn over a small 4 cylinder engine. Which is ok. It is completely unnecessary to buy a 700 cold cranking amp batt. And no in this case more is not better. That 700 cold cranking amp battery would have been used for a large V8 6 liter. It's still to big even for a 4.2 liter. All the cold cranking amps do is it takes so much amps to turn over your engine by use of the starter, and so much more when it's cold so up to I think 300 or so for the 2.0 and 420 for the 4.2. They are relatively easy wings to turn over just using a wrench if you know what your doing. So next time you buy a battery get the cold cranking amps rated for your car if it has more than why your car needs it's just a waist of money it's not like the starter is going to help the starter start the car faster or stronger it only going to use what it needs every thing else is just a waste.
