Like mine WAS, does that mean the tensioner is adjusting the intake and exhaust cams at the wrong time, or opposite? If you put bank 1 tensioner on bank 2 and vice versa.

    This just happened to me...

The machine shop swapped the tensioners in the left/right heads. What would happen, is as soon as timing is off, the tensioner would adjust it, but it would adjust it the wrong way. As you could image, it then tries to adjust it more, and adjust the wrong way even more. I was out of time by 90 CF on measuring block 93....

    Swap them ASAP.

Think about the direction the motor spins the cam chains.
The hydraulic side of the tensioner pushes on the tight side of the chain to adjust timing, while the spring on the slack side just takes up the slop.
Dside pushes up, pside pushes down.

If you swap them, the tight side of the chain will just compress the spring and do whatever it wants. The hydraulic side will be pushing on the slack side of the chain which doesnt really do anything.
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.
