    SQ5 honeycomb grille

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After much searching through old posts from a few years ago I wondered if anyone makes a RS style honeycomb grille for the SQ5 that needs no modifications? I know many people have purchased them off ebay and modified them. Can anyone recommend places to buy from or good sellers from Ebay who sell the ones that need modified? Is installation possible for someone without their own garage and tons of tools? Thanks for any and all help.

I got mine from JC Sportline - seems a lot of people got theirs from this vendor as well. The grill itself is made in China. Fairly good quality and looks great. Fitment is the issue because this grill is meant for the 2.0T.

As for install, I had mine installed at a shop. They charged for 2.5 hours which I think is reasonable. There is a fair bit of retrofitting to do in order for this grill to fit. One shop told me outright that they won't do it because it took them 5.5 hours once.

However, if you are handy, I think it might be worthy attempting it. You would need the tools required to take the bumper off the car and a dremel (for cutting the grill) and paint/vinyl (for blacking out the crash bar).

i don't believe there are any grills out there that does not require trimming to fit the s-line front bumper. that being said, the trimming is pretty straight forward. it's the bottom slats in that elongated trapezoidal opening that needs to be cut off. once installed, the modification is indistinguishable. but i totally get your wanting to have one that doesn't require modification - i was in the same boat. i ended up letting a local body shop handle it. and when you do the install, don't forget to paint the crash bar and foam piece black, as they become more visible on an RS grill.

The one I ordered from JC Sportline required no cutting for my 2012 with S-line. Was a straight swap.

Auduffer's Q is pre-facelift. The facelifted S-line Q's do not have a RS Grill solution that does not require retrofit - at least as far as I believe based on the threads on this forum and Audiworld.

Those are available on CarbonDesignz at a cool $1,200 just for the surround only. I believe ian's SQ5 made his own along with other pieces he has made himself. He also had engine pieces too that are amazing.

Had no idea it came like that from CarbonDesignz. I thought he took the black optic SQ5 grill and wrapped it in carbon along the rim.

The SQ5 black optic grill is likely around $650 from ECS. Not sure how much wrapping would cost though.

is getting the black optics sq5 grill for that price worth it? i cant seem to find aftermarket options for cheaper or if they are, the material is questionable

i think the BO grill still looks good

It's fairly pricey to me but to each their own Blacking out the non SQ grill still looks really good to me. Several members have done that with plastidip and meticulous taping.

Major issue with plastic dip is the wear and tear .. The dip in most case is affected by improper wash or even peels of if some one is little rough with it during wipes .

Wrapping seems to be the cheapest way to go but the it is also a very meticulously , demanding work and costs between 200-300$ here in the NE area .

Finally I don't tuts the Chinese grills I have seen some being shipped damaged or just plain cheap quality wise. If I was buying a front grill it would not be these.

Still looking for a "Honeycomb BO Grill" for my 2016 Q5 3.0T Sline Premium. Please post a link if anyone can tell me where to find it.

That's cool. I don't think there is one that I have ever seen. For what its worth, mine came with no issues and is fairly high quality. It looks great and came up to $350 USD.

can someone tell me what im missing please
i know we've talked about the JC sportline grill being available for the pre-facelift, and post -facelift has fitment issues.

i found this one that says it can be used for the facelift, thoughts?

Yes, can be used for post-facelift but you need to trim some it to fit properly. From my understanding, not hard at all if you have good hands.

Same reason I won't change. Seems crazy that someone or some company hasn't corrected this. I trust myself doing it, but I hate trimming something I just bought. I'll keep my BO grill for now.

The bottom section gets cut off to use with the SQ5 bumper. Its an easy job to cut it off

dip is the cheapest way to go ($14/ 2 cans) and as long as there are enough coats it'll hold up well. Mine still looks perfect through several washes and road trips.

What year is your Q5? Love the grill, can you PM the link and info on what you had to do to make it work?

    Cheers
