Home link issues and it's components

Having slight OCD, it drives me crazy that my homelink will not work. I tried when I first purchased my pre loved 2014 S4 in February. I've been getting by with a visor clip on remote. So I brought her in for a 25K check up and had a list of little things for them to check out and one of them being that system. I can program it with my remote. Lights flash 3x indicating that a signal was received and a. Iron was programmed but it will never open my garage. So while she was getting fondled by an Audi tech they let me use a 2016 Q5. So to kind of rule out my garage door as the issue (being it's an old opener from about '95) I tried the same process and programmed the loaner. First try. Opened my garage. Fast forward a few hours...dealer calls and says they found my home link module was installed upside down and a wire was pinched in the process. First thing they blame was my install on my ecs intake. I call his bullshit. He says well either way someone did this and it's not covered under warranty but it's fixed. Only charge me $70. So wouldn't you know it... I get her home and still doesn't work. I cleared programming and did the same process as the loaner. Looked through MMI on the loaner and the homelink version, status and county code was the same as mine. Is anyone familiar enough with the system and the location of the module? I'd like to take a peek myself. Thanks for any help.

you need to program the remote to the car, then program the car to the opener itself.
module is right behind the audi rings on the grill.

my other car i think they did change some homelink programming cause it didnt require me programming to the opener.
There are 10 kinds of people in this world, those who know binary and those who don't.

I have a 14 and my homelink seemed to only work when it wanted too. Took mine in for service and told them it wasn't working properly and they replaced it. Acted funny for a week and has been working well for 2 months now. I still leave the button in the center console just in case.

It is a two step process to program it but i'm sure you know since you got the loaner to work.

The opener I have was just before they started with the smart link or whatever it's called where they have a learn button on the opener. Mine has dip switches. Guess you didn't read the whole thread. I was able to get the loaner programmed in seconds and open the door, yet my car will program but not open the door.

It's just one of those stupid things that I want to work. I switch the remote between my work truck and car and sometimes forget it.

They said it's fixed and charged you, take it back and say it doesn't work. They have to warranty the work.
They can disprove it if they want by demonstrating a programming and opening of a door.

For the aggrivation a new door opener is only $150. Mine are 12 years old an have a learn button so yours are old as dirt with DIP switches.

Just going through this with my new genie opener. What a pita? so I let the door win and gave up just using the remote on the visor.

Go audiusa.com. Then my audi ,you will see links to videos , one of them involves set up for home link. If you have a newer opener you will have rolling codes and you will have to push button on the actual garage door opener power head. Then go through process to program home link

I also have issues with my homelink on my 2014 S4. Still using the remote on the visor...

OP said programming the loaner was successful, but the same process should also work on the S4.

Loaner was a piece of cake. I did the exact same thing and it never worked on mine
